Purdue hosts Washington on Friday night in West Lafayette, with the Boilermakers looking for their third consecutive Big Ten victory and the Huskies still searching for their first conference win. Both teams enter with 3-3 overall records, although Purdue sits at 2-1 in Big Ten play compared to Washington’s 0-3 mark. Kickoff from Ross-Ade Stadium is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on FOX.

Washington opened the season with victories over Washington State, Utah State and Eastern Washington but has struggled since beginning conference play. The Huskies suffered a 27-24 home loss to Minnesota before falling 25-21 at USC. Their struggles continued last Friday against Iowa, who built a 27-0 halftime lead on its way to a 41-24 victory in Seattle.

The loss to Iowa also left Washington with questions at quarterback after Demond Williams Jr. exited with a rib injury. Backup Elijah Brown completed 28 of 39 passes for 251 yards and three touchdowns in relief, but Williams’ availability for Friday remains uncertain.

Purdue has won three of its first six games under head coach Barry Odom in his second season at the helm. Following losses to Notre Dame and UCLA, the Boilermakers defeated Illinois 24-17 on the road before returning home to beat Minnesota 41-13 last Saturday.

Running back Fame Ijeboi rushed for 195 yards and three touchdowns against the Golden Gophers, leading the way as Purdue finished with 305 rushing yards. The Boilermakers also held Minnesota to just 27 yards on the ground in their most complete performance of the season.

Washington won last season’s matchup 49-13 in Seattle, but Friday will be the Huskies’ first visit to Ross-Ade Stadium since 1990.

Washington vs. Purdue Prediction

Purdue -3.5 (-105): It’s difficult to feel overly confident laying points with Purdue, particularly after a statement home victory over Minnesota last weekend. The Boilermakers haven’t exactly been a reliable team in recent years, and asking them to follow up a 28-point upset win with another strong performance is less than ideal.

However, Washington hasn’t given bettors much reason to trust the Huskies, either. Despite opening the season with three victories, Washington has been incredibly disappointing against Big Ten competition and enters Friday with a 1-5 record against the spread.

The Huskies have also struggled to protect their quarterbacks, allowing 19 sacks through six games. Their inability to establish a consistent rushing attack has only made matters worse, leaving the offense heavily dependent on its passing game.

That becomes an even greater concern with Demond Williams Jr. potentially unavailable. Head coach Jedd Fisch indicated earlier in the week that he wasn’t expecting Williams to play against Purdue, although he has not officially been ruled out.

If Elijah Brown gets the nod, he’ll be making his first career start on the road against a Purdue team that has shown major improvement over the past two seasons.

We’re backing the Boilermakers to win at home and cover the 3.5-point spread.
