The Memphis Tigers (5-1, 2-0 American) head to New Orleans for a Week 7 American Conference college football matchup against the Tulane Green Wave (2-3, 0-1 American) tonight.
Year 1 under head coach Charles Huff has gone well for Memphis after transitioning from Ryan Silverfield, who led the Tigers to four consecutive winning seasons prior to 2026, including a top-25 finish in 2024. Huff doesn’t have this Memphis team ranked yet, but that could change very soon if the Tigers keep stacking wins.
The Tigers are on a three-game winning streak and have dominated their opponents during that stretch, for all intents and purposes. Memphis is averaging 47.3 points per game during its winning streak while allowing just 14 points per game. Quarterback Marcus Stokes is playing phenomenally in his first year with the Tigers, Jaylin Carter and the run game have been unstoppable, and Hunter Tipton leads the American Conference with five receiving touchdowns.
The same can’t be said right now for Tulane and its new head coach Will Hall. Hall replaced Jon Sumrall, who coached the Green Wave to an 11-3 record, a College Football Playoff berth as the No. 11 seed, and a No. 18 final ranking in the AP Poll last season before leaving to take the Florida Gators job.
Tulane simply hasn’t been able to find a consistent rhythm so far this season, starting the year with a 17-3 loss to Duke and then alternating wins and losses since then. The offense hasn’t been nearly explosive or dangerous enough, and the defense has had a tough time creating turnovers.
If there’s one thing about this Green Wave team in 2026, though, it’s that they’ve typically been competitive in each game. Their largest margin of defeat this season was the 14-point loss to Duke in Week 1, and their most recent loss was a three-point defeat at the hands of Army in their American Conference opener this past Saturday.
