A pair of teams trending in the right direction open a three-game interleague series on Friday’s MLB slate as the back-to-back defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers (69-40) host the surging Boston Red Sox (57-51) at Dodger Stadium.

The Red Sox have had a rollercoaster season that saw their former manager fired earlier in the year before they recently put together a franchise-record-tying 15-game winning streak that sprung them back into the American League playoff picture. Although the streak ended in the second game of a doubleheader with a 5-1 loss to Baltimore, Boston is 5-2 over its last seven games, including its most recent series victory against the Athletics.

The Dodgers need no introduction. Los Angeles enters Friday with the best record in MLB as it looks to win its third consecutive World Series championship and has won six of its last eight games, including a series victory over Seattle that wrapped up Thursday night.

The Dodgers are expected to toss a bullpen game in Friday night’s matchup, with 24-year-old Edgardo Henriquez (2.79 ERA) set to serve as the opener in what will be his first major league start. The Red Sox will counter with All-Star left-hander Ranger Suárez, who owns a 3.02 ERA this season and is coming off a scoreless four-inning outing in his last start on July 26 after returning from the injured list following an untimely illness that delayed his comeback.

Dodgers vs. Red Sox Best Bet: Shohei Ohtani Over 1.5 Total Bases (+105)

Shohei Ohtani sat out Thursday’s series finale against Seattle as he continues to deal with a knee issue, but the two-way superstar is expected to return to the Dodgers’ lineup for Friday night’s opener against Boston.

Ohtani has had one of his quieter months of the season in July, batting .265 for the month, but he’s 6-for-11 over his last three games with three doubles and one home run. His career sample against Ranger Suárez is limited, but Ohtani does have a double off the southpaw. He’s also batting .274 with six doubles and nine home runs against left-handed pitching this season.
