The TNT Sports Hall of Fame Series heads to Boston on Friday afternoon as the UMass Minutemen (1-0) take on the Boston College Eagles (1-0) in an in-state rivalry matchup at TD Garden. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. ET, with both programs looking to remain undefeated early in the 2026-27 men’s college basketball season.
The Minutemen and Eagles are meeting for the 49th time in a rivalry dating back more than 120 years. Friday’s matchup is also the first game of a doubleheader at TD Garden, followed by UConn vs. Michigan at 8 p.m. ET.

UMass opened the season with an impressive 71-60 road victory over Troy on Monday, using a massive 32-1 run across the two halves to take control of the game. The Minutemen overcame an early deficit and built a lead as large as 25 points before securing the win.
Junjie Wang led the way with 18 points and 13 rebounds in his UMass debut, while Jordan Clayton added 16 points and eight rebounds. The Minutemen also got contributions from Noa Zemljić and Dwayne Wimbley Jr., who scored 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Minutemen showed plenty of promise defensively, recording 10 blocks against Troy, including seven from Abdullah Ahmed. That interior presence could be important against a Boston College team coming off a convincing 76-50 win over Wagner.
Boston College looked strong in Luke Murray’s coaching debut, but UMass also impressed in its season opener, particularly on the defensive end. The Minutemen have won four straight meetings against the Eagles, and with both teams still finding their rhythm early in the season, UMass is more than capable of keeping this rivalry matchup close enough to cover the spread.

Boston College also opened its season with a convincing win, defeating Wagner 76-50 on Tuesday in Murray’s first regular season game as head coach. Money Williams scored a game-high 22 points, while Armoni Zeigler added 14 off the bench and Žak Smrekar finished with 12. The Eagles shot 49% from the field and held Wagner to just 30.4% shooting.
There’s plenty of history between these programs, with Boston College holding a 26-22 advantage in the all-time series. UMass won the most recent meeting 76-74 last December, and Friday’s game brings the longtime rivals back together at TD Garden, where they previously met in 2013.
