The ALCS returns to St. Petersburg, Florida, Monday night as the Tampa Bay Rays host the Cleveland Guardians for Game 6 at Tropicana Field. The Rays have a chance to punch their ticket to the World Series to face Milwaukee with a win.
The Rays trailed 2-1 in the series but won two consecutive road games in Cleveland over the weekend to take a 3-2 lead heading back home to the Trop. Tampa Bay earned a 7-3 win in Game 4 on Saturday to even the series at two games apiece before securing a 3-1 victory in Game 5 on Sunday. The Rays scored one run in each of the first three innings of Game 5 and got excellent pitching from All-Star right-hander Drew Rasmussen, who allowed just four hits and one run over seven innings.
Veteran right-hander Freddy Peralta will look to do more of the same as the Rays’ starter for Game 6 Monday night. After a terrific final month of the regular season, Peralta has carried that success into the postseason, allowing only one run over 11.1 innings across three appearances. He tossed six scoreless innings and picked up the win in Game 2 of the ALCS before most recently coming out of the bullpen in Game 4 on Saturday to record the final two outs of the sixth inning.
The Guardians are expected to counter with right-handed reliever Shawn Armstrong as the opener. Armstrong made his first career MLB playoff start in Game 4, pitching a scoreless first inning before being replaced on the mound. He also made a scoreless appearance out of the bullpen in Game 5, tossing 1.1 innings of relief. The veteran has yet to allow a run in six appearances this postseason.
