The first Monday Night Football game of the 2026-27 NFL season kicks off with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Denver Broncos in an AFC West matchup. Both teams will welcome back their starting quarterbacks, as Broncos quarterback Bo Nix returns after suffering a fractured right ankle in Denver’s AFC Divisional Round win over Buffalo last postseason, while two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes is set to return for the Chiefs after suffering a season-ending torn ACL in a Week 15 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers in December.
In addition to their quarterbacks making highly anticipated returns, both the Broncos and Chiefs made exciting additions to their offenses this offseason. Denver acquired wide receiver Jaylen Waddle in a trade with Miami, pairing him with veteran wideout Courtland Sutton, while Kansas City signed Super Bowl LX MVP running back Kenneth Walker III, adding him to an offense that features wide receiver Rashee Rice, who’s healthy and ready to go following offseason knee surgery, and, of course, future Hall of Famer Travis Kelce at tight end.

Travis Kelce may not be the same receiving threat he once was, but he and Patrick Mahomes have formed one of the most prolific duos in recent memory. If Mahomes is in trouble, it almost always feels like Kelce will be there to help bail him out.
The Broncos’ defense is one of the best units in the NFL, but that didn’t stop an aging Kelce from finding success against it last season. Kelce caught nine passes for 91 yards and a touchdown in Week 11 and later caught five passes in Week 17 while Mahomes was out with an injury.
The Stats Hub notes that Kelce has recorded four or more receptions in each of his last eight appearances against the Broncos.

Kenneth Walker III Over 21.5 Receiving Yards (-110)
After a 1,000-yard rushing season and a dominant postseason with the Seattle Seahawks in 2025-26, Kenneth Walker III is now set to play his first game in a Chiefs uniform Monday night. While he’s not Christian McCaffrey in the passing game, Walker still offers enough as a receiver to make him a weapon for his quarterback.
Walker caught 31 passes on 36 targets during the regular season last year for 282 yards, and he also had nine catches for 104 yards in three games during the playoffs. His best receiving performance during the Seahawks’ Super Bowl run came when he recorded 49 yards against the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship Game.
Mahomes may not be as much of a factor as a scrambler or in the run game coming off a major knee injury, so if he finds himself in a situation where he would usually scramble or simply needs to get rid of the ball quickly, Walker could play a large role in the passing attack against the Broncos. Again, it was with a different team and offense, but the Stats Hub highlights that Walker has recorded 26 or more receiving yards in each of his last four appearances.

Courtland Sutton Anytime Touchdown (+250)
Like the Broncos, the Chiefs have a tough defense to go against. However, Courtland Sutton has plenty of experience playing against Kansas City and at Arrowhead Stadium throughout his career.
The Stats Hub notes that Sutton has scored a touchdown in four of the Broncos’ last six games against the Chiefs. While he was held without a touchdown in the two meetings in 2025, it’s worth noting that the Pro Bowl wide receiver has scored a touchdown in two of his last three Week 1 appearances, including last season against Tennessee.
Sutton is a big-bodied receiver, making him a prime target for Bo Nix in the red zone. He has 25 touchdown catches over the last three seasons, including 10 in 2023, and the addition of Jaylen Waddle should help free him up from time to time for more opportunities to make big plays.
