AFC West division odds are displayed using the American moneyline format. If a team carries negative odds (-), it is considered the odds-on favorite. Teams listed with positive odds (+) are technically all underdogs, but it’s common for every team in a division winner market to be listed at plus money. When that happens, the team with the shortest positive price is considered the favorite.

Other franchises have briefly joined the group over the years. Tampa Bay spent its inaugural 1976 season in the AFC West, while Seattle competed in the division from 1977 through 2001. Denver Broncos

Success wasn’t immediate for the Denver Broncos. The franchise struggled throughout much of its AFL existence before developing into one of the AFC’s most accomplished organizations after the merger.

Much of that transformation is connected to John Elway. The Hall of Fame quarterback led Denver to five Super Bowl appearances and eventually closed his career by winning consecutive championships following the 1997 and 1998 seasons. Those titles erased years of postseason heartbreak and established the Broncos as one of the league’s premier franchises.

Another championship era arrived with Peyton Manning. Denver won the AFC West in each of Manning’s four seasons with the team, reached two Super Bowls and defeated Carolina in Super Bowl 50 to capture the franchise’s third Lombardi Trophy.

That 2015 season marked Denver’s final division championship for nearly a decade. The Broncos went nine seasons without an AFC West crown before returning to the top in 2025, finishing 14-3 and earning the AFC’s No. 1 seed.

With eight Super Bowl appearances and three championships, Denver owns one of the most accomplished postseason résumés in the division.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs weren’t always located in Kansas City. Lamar Hunt founded the franchise as the Dallas Texans in 1960, and the team won the AFL championship in 1962 before relocating to Kansas City the following year.

The Chiefs were also part of professional football’s earliest Super Bowl history. Kansas City represented the AFL in the first Super Bowl before returning three years later and defeating the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl IV.

Another championship wouldn’t arrive for 50 years.

Andy Reid’s arrival in 2013 helped turn Kansas City into a consistent winner, and Patrick Mahomes eventually elevated the franchise into one of the defining teams of the modern NFL. The Chiefs captured nine consecutive AFC West championships from 2016 through 2024, a streak surpassed only by New England’s 11 straight AFC East titles from 2009 through 2019.

Kansas City’s run extended well beyond the division. The Chiefs reached five Super Bowls over six seasons from 2019 through 2024 and won three of them, raising the franchise’s overall Super Bowl total to four.

The division-title streak finally ended in 2025, but Kansas City’s recent run permanently changed the AFC West record book.

Las Vegas Raiders

Few NFL franchises have undergone as many geographic changes without losing their identity as the Raiders.

The organization began in Oakland in 1960, relocated to Los Angeles in 1982, returned to Oakland in 1995 and eventually moved to Las Vegas ahead of the 2020 season. Through every move, the Raiders remained part of the AFC West.

Their most successful period came under owner Al Davis during the 1970s and early 1980s. Oakland won Super Bowl XI, the Raiders captured another championship following the 1980 season, and the newly relocated Los Angeles Raiders won Super Bowl XVIII after the 1983 campaign.

That gave the franchise three Super Bowl championships in an eight-season span.

The more recent history has been considerably tougher. The Raiders won the AFC West and reached Super Bowl XXXVII following the 2002 season, but they haven’t secured another division crown since.

Despite the drought, their 15 AFL/AFC West titles and three Lombardi Trophies remain a significant part of the division and league’s overall history.

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers played their inaugural season in Los Angeles in 1960 before moving to San Diego the following year. They remained there through 2016 before returning to Los Angeles in 2017.

The franchise was an early AFL powerhouse. The Chargers reached five of the league’s first six championship games and won the 1963 AFL title behind Hall of Fame head coach Sid Gillman.

Years later, another innovative offense put the franchise back in the spotlight. Head coach Don Coryell and quarterback Dan Fouts helped popularize an aggressive downfield passing attack that became known as “Air Coryell,” influencing offensive football well beyond San Diego.

The Chargers enjoyed another successful stretch during the 2000s behind Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates. San Diego won five AFC West titles between 2004 and 2009, including four consecutive from 2006 through 2009.

The franchise is still chasing its first Super Bowl championship. Its only appearance came following the 1994 season, when the Chargers lost to San Francisco in Super Bowl XXIX.

• • 2025 Denver Broncos: The Broncos ended Kansas City’s nine-year run by finishing 14-3 and capturing their first AFC West championship since 2015. Denver allowed just 18.3 points per game, the third-lowest mark in the NFL, and earned the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The Broncos defeated Buffalo 33-30 in the Divisional Round before their season ended with a 10-7 loss to New England in the AFC Championship Game.
  • 2024 Kansas City Chiefs: Kansas City extended its AFC West streak to nine consecutive seasons and posted a franchise-best 15-2 regular-season record. The Chiefs secured the AFC’s No. 1 seed, defeated Houston and Buffalo in the playoffs and reached the Super Bowl for a third consecutive year.
