Welcome back to the Betting Pros PGA podcast. I’m Pat Fitzmaurice, joined by Bo McBrayer.

We’re about to plunge into a betting preview of this week’s Truist Championship.

We’ll also sneak in a couple of our favorite plays in this week’s other PGA Tour event, the ONEflight Myrtle Beach Classic.

2026 Truist Championship Preview

The Truist Championship is yet another Signature Event on the PGA Tour schedule, as this week’s field features 72 players with no cut. Everyone in the field will be playing all four rounds.

Scottie Scheffler is sitting this one out, but otherwise, most of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars will be in attendance. Cameron Young arrives red-hot after completely dominating the Cadillac Championship last week at Doral, winning by six shots over Scheffler and leading wire-to-wire.

Quail Hollow is a familiar venue for PGA Tour fans. The longtime home of the Wells Fargo Championship also hosted the 2017 and 2025 PGA Championships. Last year’s Truist Championship was played at Philadelphia Cricket Club, where Sepp Straka picked up the win, but this week marks a return to Quail Hollow.

This is a Par 71 measuring 7,583 yards with Bermuda greens. It’s one of the sternest tests on the PGA Tour calendar and demands elite driving, long-iron play, and strong scrambling ability.

Four par 4s measure 490 yards or longer, including the monstrous 530-yard 9th hole and the brutal 529-yard 16th, part of Quail Hollow’s famous “Green Mile” closing stretch.

The 17th hole is a demanding long par 3 that stretched beyond 220 yards during last year’s PGA Championship, while the 18th is a 494-yard par 4 with trouble everywhere.

Greens in regulation percentages traditionally dip at Quail Hollow because of the course’s length and difficulty. Players are forced into a steady diet of long-iron approaches, and scrambling becomes critical.

The course heavily rewards driving distance. In fact, only one winner over the last 15 years entered the week outside the Top 15 in driving distance.

Recent winners here include Scheffler at the 2025 PGA Championship (-11), Rory McIlroy in 2024 (-17), Wyndham Clark in 2023 (-19), and Max Homa in 2022 (-8).

Weather this week could soften the course early in the tournament, with storms forecasted for Thursday morning and possible showers on Saturday. Winds are expected to remain relatively light throughout the week.

Bo McBrayer on Quail Hollow

Quail Hollow is one of the best and toughest golf courses in the PGA Tour rotation. There’s a reason it regularly hosts PGA Championships.

This place absolutely demands driving distance. You have to be able to bomb the golf ball here. That’s not hyperbole – it’s reality.

As we mentioned, only one winner over the last 15 years entered the week outside the Top 15 in driving distance. That tells you everything you need to know about the type of player who succeeds at Quail Hollow.

This is effectively the same distance as Doral last week, except it’s a Par 71 instead of a Par 72. The par 4s are brutal and they’re going to bully a lot of players this week.

You need elite par-4 scoring, long-iron play, scrambling, bogey avoidance, and three-putt avoidance because these greens are fast and difficult.

Even the players who play well here are going to make bogeys. The guys who’ll survive are the ones who can limit the damage and grind out pars when their ball striking isn’t perfect.

The “Green Mile” closing stretch is one of the toughest finishes in golf. You can absolutely wreck your tournament over those final three holes.

You’ll still need to take advantage of the par 5s and a couple shorter par 4s where birdies are available, but overall, this is a golf course that rewards elite tee-to-green players with power.
