The Premier League saved a West London derby for the final game of its opening matchweek, as Fulham host Chelsea on Monday afternoon at Craven Cottage in the only league match on the day’s schedule. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. ET on USA Network and Universo.
There was no space between these two clubs in the table last season. Chelsea finished 10th and Fulham placed 11th after both collected 52 points, with the Blues holding the advantage on goal difference. Each fell short of European qualification, and both clubs now enter the new season under different managers.
Álvaro Arbeloa takes over at Fulham following Marco Silva‘s departure for Benfica, ending Silva’s five-year tenure as manager. The change on the sideline was accompanied by several notable moves within the squad. Harry Wilson, who led Fulham with 11 goals across all competitions last season, joined Leeds United, while Raúl Jiménez, Saša Lukić and Issa Diop also moved on.
Fulham turned to a younger group to replace them. Arbeloa reunited with former Real Madrid players Gonzalo García and César Palacios, while midfielder Shea Charles was added as well. García is expected to lead the attack Monday after arriving in a deal reportedly worth more than £30 million.
Chelsea responded to its disappointing finish with another enormous investment in the squad.
Xabi Alonso arrives at Stamford Bridge after previously managing Bayer Leverkusen and Real Madrid, and Chelsea’s reported summer spending has climbed well beyond £250 million ahead of his first season. The headline move was the British-record £117 million signing of Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Pep Chavarría and Valentín Barco were also brought in, while veterans Danny Welbeck and Jordan Henderson add experience to one of the league’s younger squads.
The departures were nearly as extensive. Marc Cucurella left for Real Madrid, Trevoh Chalobah joined Como and Andrey Santos moved to Manchester United. Alejandro Garnacho (Aston Villa) and Benoît Badiashile (Napoli) will spend the season away from Chelsea on loan.
Monday’s matchup also brings Chelsea back to the site of one of its more frustrating defeats from last season, as Fulham picked up a 2-1 victory at Craven Cottage in January after Cucurella was sent off in the 22nd minute. Chelsea took the other meeting 2-0 at Stamford Bridge behind goals from João Pedro and Enzo Fernández.
There is another layer to this matchup of new managers. Alonso and Arbeloa were teammates at Liverpool, Real Madrid and the Spanish national team before each spent time managing Real Madrid last season. Their first Premier League appearances in the dugout will now come against one another.

Best Bet for Fulham vs. Chelsea
Hard Rock Bet’s Stats Hub offers recent team trends, player data and matchup info for every game on the Premier League schedule. For the final game of the opening matchweek, one trend that stuck out is Over 2.5 Total Goals (-130).
Over 2.5 Goals has cashed in each of Chelsea’s last seven Premier League matches as an away favorite.
Chelsea has enough talent up top to extend that run. João Pedro returns after scoring 20 goals during his first season with the club and could be joined up front by Cole Palmer and record signing Morgan Rogers. The Blues also closed the preseason by scoring three times against both AC Milan and Real Sociedad.
Fulham must replace Wilson and Jiménez, but the additions of García and Palacios give Arbeloa two new attacking options for his Premier League debut. At the other end, Chelsea is still incorporating several new defenders into Alonso’s system, which could create opportunities for the hosts.
With Chelsea’s upgraded attack and two teams adjusting to significant offseason changes, we’ll back Over 2.5 Total Goals (-130) as our best bet for Monday’s match.
