The second round of the 2026 US Open got underway Wednesday, and world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz is back in action as the No. 2 seed faces Jaime Faria at Arthur Ashe Stadium to close out the night on the men’s side.
Faria is ranked No. 72 in the world, but the 23-year-old will have an opportunity to make a name for himself against one of the sport’s biggest stars. Faria turned pro in 2021 and owns a 17-23 career singles record, including a 12-9 mark in 2026. He advanced to the second round after taking down California native Jenson Brooksby in five sets in his US Open opener.
Alcaraz is the main attraction in this one, however, as the former world No. 1 brings a 302-68 career singles record and a 22-3 record in 2026 into tonight’s match. Alcaraz has seven Grand Slam singles titles to his name, including US Open championships in 2022 and 2025, and has already won two singles titles this year: the 2026 Australian Open and the Qatar ExxonMobil Open. Alcaraz will look to successfully defend his title and become the first man to win back-to-back US Opens since Roger Federer won five straight from 2004-08.

Make sure to check out the Stats Hub for betting insights and trends across both the men’s and women’s tournaments throughout the 2026 US Open to help make informed wagers like the pick below:
Faria vs. Alcaraz Best Bet: Jaime Faria +6.5 (+100)
Carlos Alcaraz may be more experienced, more accomplished, and more accustomed to playing on stages like the US Open, but Jaime Faria has kept things close as of late, particularly against top-level competition.
While Alcaraz is the heavy favorite to win tonight, the game spread tells a different story. The Stats Hub notes that Alcaraz has failed to cover the game spread in each of his last five ATP main-draw matches on hard courts. That includes his first-round victory over Roman Safiullin in this tournament, when Alcaraz won by six games with the spread set at -6.5.
Safiullin is ranked No. 99 in the world, while Faria enters Wednesday at No. 72 and has played well against several highly ranked opponents in 2026.
Faria faced two Top 15 players at the recent 2026 Cincinnati Open, Lorenzo Musetti (No. 14) and Ben Shelton (No. 9), notably defeating Shelton in straight sets in the Round of 64 before later losing to Musetti by six games in the Round of 16. In other recent tournaments, Faria lost to world No. 22 Luciano Darderi by just two games in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Millennium Estoril Open and to world No. 20 Casper Ruud by five games in the Round of 16 at the 2026 EFG Swiss Open Gstaad.
With Faria showing an ability to remain competitive against highly ranked opponents and Alcaraz failing to cover the game spread in five consecutive ATP main-draw matches on hard courts, there is reason to look toward the underdog on the spread tonight.
- Faria vs. Alcaraz Spread Pick for Tonight: Jaime Faria +6.5 (+100)
