The top two teams in the National League Central meet for the third time in as many nights as the Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago Cubs continue their four-game series at Wrigley Field. First pitch is scheduled for 7:40 p.m. ET.

Chicago opened the series with an emphatic 17-3 victory Monday night, setting a franchise record with nine home runs. Alex Bregman went deep three times, while Tyrone Taylor, Seiya Suzuki, Michael Conforto and Matt Shaw also contributed to the record-setting performance.

Milwaukee answered on Tuesday by overcoming an early three-run deficit in a 9-4 victory. Christian Yelich put the Brewers ahead with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and Joey Ortiz added a two-run shot as Milwaukee finished with 13 hits and scored nine unanswered runs. The Brewers improved to 86-53 and restored their eight-game advantage over the Cubs atop the division. Milwaukee has won six of its last eight games against Chicago this season, including four of five at Wrigley Field.

Chicago enters Wednesday at 78-61 and currently occupies the National League’s second Wild Card spot. The Cubs have scored an MLB-leading 746 runs and also lead the majors in home runs, with Pete Crow-Armstrong emerging as the centerpiece of one of baseball‘s most productive lineups. PCA has hit 38 homers and is currently the -2000 favorite to win NL MVP at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook, well ahead of Shohei Ohtani at +1100.

Milwaukee counters with the overwhelming favorite for the National League Cy Young Award. Jacob Misiorowski is currently listed at -1400 to win the NL Cy Young Award at Hard Rock Bet after building a sizable lead over Chris Sale, who is available at +700.

Misiorowski enters tonight’s game at 14-5 with an MLB-best 1.73 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 222 strikeouts over 151 innings. The right-hander also leads the majors in strikeouts, WHIP and batting average against while holding opposing hitters to a microscopic .150 average.

The Miz has already defeated Chicago twice this season. He pitched six scoreless innings with eight strikeouts at Wrigley Field on May 19, then allowed one run and two hits over six innings at American Family Field on June 26. Altogether, Misiorowski owns a 0.75 ERA with 16 strikeouts across 12 innings against the Cubs.

David Peterson will start for Chicago. The left-hander is 7-7 with a 5.11 ERA, 1.52 WHIP and 109 strikeouts across 123.1 innings, although his recent work has been considerably better than those season-long numbers suggest. Peterson recorded a 2.83 ERA over 28.2 innings in August and has allowed just two earned runs in each of his last two starts. Peterson also pitched well against Milwaukee in his Cubs debut on June 27. He held the Brewers to two runs across 5.2 innings as Chicago earned an 8-2 victory.

Best Bet for Brewers vs. Cubs

Looking for more info before betting on Brewers-Cubs? Visit Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook’s Stats Hub for matchup trends, team streaks and other useful insights for every game across every MLB slate. Here’s one angle that stood out for tonight:

Cubs +1.5 (-125): Chicago has covered the run line in 17 consecutive games as an underdog. That streak includes Monday’s 17-3 win over Milwaukee, and the Cubs are now getting a reasonable -125 price to keep it going against the National League Cy Young favorite.

Misiorowski has been nearly untouchable against Chicago, winning both of his starts while allowing just one run over 12 innings. However, Milwaukee’s careful handling of Misiorowski could keep him from working deep into the night. He has already exceeded his previous career high with 151 innings, and each of his last four starts has ended after six frames.

Another key will be preventing Milwaukee from building an early cushion, and David Peterson has pitched well enough recently to give Chicago that opportunity. The left-hander recorded a 2.83 ERA in August and limited the Brewers to two runs over 5.2 innings in an 8-2 Cubs victory earlier this season.

With Peterson capable of keeping the game competitive and Misiorowski unlikely to go deep into this one, Chicago +1.5 is our best bet for tonight’s NL Central clash.

  • Best Bet: Cubs +1.5 (-125)
