The Amgen Irish Open moves to a new venue this week as one of the strongest fields of the 2026 DP World Tour season heads to Trump International Golf Links & Hotel in Doonbeg, County Clare. The tournament begins Thursday, September 10 and features a $6 million purse, with $1.02 million awarded to the winner.
Several players arrive directly from last week’s Omega European Masters, where Thriston Lawrence erased a six-shot final-round deficit by shooting a bogey-free 62 on his way to the win. Paul Casey led Lawrence late but bogeyed the 72nd hole, sending the tournament into a playoff at 18-under. The first three extra holes were halved before Lawrence sank a 23-foot birdie putt on the fourth to secure his third victory at Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club, defending his title after winning the event in 2025.
Harry Hall finished one stroke outside the playoff following a final-round 63, while Bernd Wiesberger, Angel Ayora, Eugenio Chacarra, Angel Hidalgo and Francesco Laporta shared fourth place at 16-under.
That group will now join defending champion Rory McIlroy and a collection of Major winners, Ryder Cup veterans and former Irish Open champions in Doonbeg.
McIlroy Opens as the Favorite
McIlroy (+600) holds the shortest odds at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook as he pursues his third Irish Open title.
The Northern Irishman produced one of the most memorable finishes of the 2025 season at The K Club, sinking a 28-foot eagle putt on the 72nd hole to force a playoff with Joakim Lagergren. McIlroy eventually prevailed on the third extra hole to add another Irish Open victory to the title he captured at the same venue in 2016.
Another win would place McIlroy alongside Seve Ballesteros, Nick Faldo, Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie as a three-time champion. He could also become the first player to successfully defend the Irish Open since Montgomerie won consecutive editions in 1996 and 1997.
McIlroy enters the week in strong form after placing third at the BMW Championship and T4 at the TOUR Championship. McIlroy also finished second to Rasmus Højgaard when the Irish Open was last played on a links course at Royal County Down in 2024.
Big Names Chasing Rory
Jon Rahm (+1000) is the only player in the field besides McIlroy listed with odds shorter than 16-1. Rahm won the Irish Open by six strokes at Portstewart in 2017, finished fourth at Ballyliffin the following year and claimed his second title at Lahinch in 2019. Both victories came on Irish links courses, making his history particularly relevant despite Doonbeg being new to the tournament.
Rahm will make his first Irish Open appearance since that 2019 victory. His most recent start resulted in a runner-up finish at LIV Golf Indianapolis.
Tyrrell Hatton (+1600) follows with a résumé built for links golf. Hatton has won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship three times, capturing consecutive titles in 2016 and 2017 before winning it again in 2024.
Robert MacIntyre and Joaquin Niemann are up next at +1750. MacIntyre won the 2024 Scottish Open and finished T5 at Royal County Down later that season. He recently returned from a knee injury sustained during the FedEx St. Jude Championship to place T7 at the BMW Championship.
Shane Lowry is another notable name in this week’s field, coming in at +2500. Lowry won the Irish Open as an amateur in 2009 and will make his 18th consecutive appearance in the event. The former Open champion has finished T9, T3, T12 and T15 across the past four editions, giving him four straight top-15 results at his country’s national open.
Other Irish Open Contenders
Matt Wallace, Patrick Reed, Eugenio Chacarra, Alex Fitzpatrick and Harry Hall are each available at +3000.
Wallace has finished inside the top 15 in four of his past five starts. His latest appearance resulted in a T9 finish at the European Masters, where he closed the week at 15-under.
Reed enters Doonbeg atop the Race to Dubai standings following a season featuring two victories, a runner-up finish and two additional top-10 results. He made his Irish Open debut last year at The K Club.
Fitzpatrick has enjoyed a breakthrough 2026 season, winning his first individual DP World Tour title at the Hero Indian Open before teaming up with his brother, Matt, to capture the PGA Tour‘s Zurich Classic. He also finished T4 at the TOUR Championship and owns a T9 result from the 2024 Irish Open at Royal County Down.
Hall carries immediate momentum after finishing third in Switzerland, while Chacarra was part of the five-player tie for fourth. Chacarra has already locked up two victories this season.
Former champion Rasmus Højgaard (+4000) returns after skipping his title defense last year. He birdied four of his final five holes at Royal County Down in 2024 to defeat McIlroy by one stroke. Højgaard has recently added a runner-up finish at the Danish Golf Championship and a T11 at the European Masters.
Jacob Skov Olesen (+4000) has finished inside the top 16 in each of his past four starts, including a runner-up performance in his most recent appearance at the British Masters. The Dane also placed eighth at The K Club last year.
Irishman Tom McKibbin and Oliver Lindell are among the players available at +5000. Lindell has made the cut in all 21 of his starts this season while recording six top-10 finishes, including two runner-up results. He finished seventh in last year’s Irish Open.
Former Champions and Proven Irish Open Performers
Lawrence (+7500) offers one of the most interesting combinations of recent form and tournament history. In addition to winning last week’s European Masters, the South African finished third at the Irish Open in both 2022 and 2023.
Wiesberger is also available at +7500 after tying for fourth in Switzerland. The Austrian has twice finished runner-up at links editions of the Irish Open, losing in a playoff at Royal County Down in 2015 before sharing second place behind Rahm at Lahinch in 2019.
Lagergren (+10000) returns one year after pushing McIlroy to three playoff holes at The K Club. Hidalgo (+15000) and Rafa Cabrera Bello (+25000) tied for third in that tournament, while Matteo Manassero (+25000) finished third during the 2024 links edition.
Other former champions in the field include Adrian Meronk (+25000), Pádraig Harrington (+25000) and John Catlin (+50000). Harrington won in 2007 to end a 25-year wait for a home winner, while Catlin captured the 2020 event and Meronk prevailed in 2022.
