Group I kicks off Friday’s busy World Cup slate, and while Norway and France battle for the top spot in the group, Senegal and Iraq will be fighting to keep their knockout stage hopes alive.

Senegal enters the match after losses to both France and Norway but has been competitive against the group’s strongest teams. It dropped its 2026 World Cup opener 3-1 to France before suffering a hard-fought 3-2 loss to Norway earlier this week. Ismaïla Sarr scored both of Senegal’s second-half goals against Norway, giving the Lions of Teranga some offensive momentum heading into Friday.

Iraq is also winless after opening the tournament with a 4-1 loss to Norway. Aymen Hussein scored Iraq’s lone goal in the 39th minute, while an own goal in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time gave Norway its fourth. Iraq followed that performance with a 3-0 loss to France on Monday, managing just four shots and failing to record a shot on target.

Neither team has been eliminated from knockout stage contention entering Friday’s match in Toronto, but both face a difficult path. Sitting on zero points, each side must win to have any realistic chance of advancing as one of the tournament’s eight best third-place teams. Goal differential could also prove critical, with Senegal sitting at -3 and Iraq at -6 entering the final group-stage match.

Senegal vs. Iraq Best Bet: Both Teams to Score – No

Neither team has shown enough consistent attacking quality through its first two group-stage matches. Senegal has looked slightly more dangerous, scoring in both contests, including twice against Norway earlier this week.

Iraq, meanwhile, has scored just one goal while conceding seven through two matches. It has also managed only 15 total shots and just one shot on target during the tournament.

Friday’s match could easily end scoreless, or Senegal may simply prove too strong offensively. While both teams need goals to improve their goal differential and keep their slim knockout hopes alive, Iraq has yet to show it can consistently create quality scoring opportunities. That makes the “Both Teams to Score – No” market an attractive option.
