AL East rivals meet for the second game of a four-game series as the Tampa Bay Rays (57-42) take on the Toronto Blue Jays (46-54) Tuesday night at Rogers Centre. The Rays won Monday’s opener, 7-1, and now lead the season series 6-1.
The Rays had lost five straight games dating back to before the All-Star break and were coming off a four-game sweep at the hands of Boston to open the second half before Monday’s dominant victory got them back in the win column. Following his first career All-Star appearance, veteran right-hander Nick Martinez allowed just one earned run over six innings against the Blue Jays, while the offense was powered by home runs from Victor Mesa Jr., Cedric Mullins, and Nick Fortes.
The Blue Jays have also struggled lately, now having lost five of their last six games dating back to before the All-Star break. Not much went Toronto’s way in Monday’s opener, as American League All-Star Game starter Dylan Cease didn’t have his best outing, allowing seven hits and five runs (three earned), including two home runs, over six innings. Tuesday night’s game features an intriguing pitching matchup as veteran two-time All-Star Kevin Gausman is set to take the mound for the Blue Jays, while two-time All-Star Drew Rasmussen is expected to make his 19th start of the season for the Rays. Rasmussen pitched 0.2 scoreless innings with one strikeout for the American League during last week’s 2026 All-Star Game at Citizens Bank Park.
