A pair of 1-0 SEC teams meet in Lexington on Saturday as the Kentucky Wildcats (1-0, 0-0 SEC) host the No. 12 Alabama Crimson Tide (1-0, 0-0 SEC) for a 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff at Kroger Field.
Alabama opened its season with a 48-10 win over East Carolina in a game that featured an explosive second quarter for the Crimson Tide and an overall stellar defensive performance. Alabama held a 10-0 lead after the first quarter before scoring four touchdowns in the second, including two rushing touchdowns by Daniel Hill and a 27-yard pick-six by linebacker Yhonzae Pierre. The Crimson Tide finished the game with 487 yards of total offense.
The offense may have gotten the job done, but Alabama’s defensive performance was perhaps even more notable. Alabama impressively allowed just five first downs all game to East Carolina and held the Pirates to 0-for-9 on third down. East Carolina also finished with only two rushing yards as a team.
Kentucky picked up a 45-13 win against Youngstown State in Week 1, with the offense totaling 506 yards. Transfer quarterback Kenny Minchey threw for 301 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions for the Wildcats, while the run game totaled 205 rushing yards and transfer running back CJ Baxter found the end zone twice.
Kentucky’s defense will face a big test against Alabama on Saturday after allowing 305 yards of offense to Youngstown State. Penguins quarterback Beau Brungard threw for 243 yards against the Wildcats’ defense, while wide receiver Lynn Wyche-El found plenty of success with 111 receiving yards and a touchdown. One positive for Kentucky, however, was that it held Youngstown State to just 59 rushing yards and 2.1 yards per carry.

Kentucky vs. Alabama Best Bet: Over 48.5 Points (-105)
Alabama and Kentucky’s offenses both put up plenty of yards and points in their Week 1 wins, but Saturday’s matchup will be an interesting test to see if the Wildcats can replicate that success against a Crimson Tide defense that was incredible against East Carolina. On the other hand, as mentioned above, Kentucky’s defense didn’t have its best performance against Youngstown State last week, particularly against the Penguins’ passing attack, and it won’t get any easier this week having to face a dynamic wide receiver like Ryan Coleman-Williams.
