The NBA Finals continue Friday night with Game 2 between the New York Knicks and San Antonio Spurs. Despite a lengthy layoff following the Eastern Conference Finals, the Knicks came out ready to play in Game 1 and delivered a somewhat surprising result, beating the Spurs 105-95 in San Antonio.

There were concerns about how the Knicks would look after having more time off between series than the Spurs, especially with the challenge of opening the Finals on the road against the team with the second-best record in the NBA. Although the Spurs outscored the Knicks by eight points in the first quarter and took a 55-48 lead into halftime, New York outscored San Antonio by 17 points in the second half to complete the comeback and take a 1-0 series lead.

Knicks fans had quite a scare when Jalen Brunson left the court late in the first quarter and limped to the locker room, but he quickly returned and became a driving force in the victory. With the game tied midway through the fourth quarter, Brunson went on a personal 8-0 run to give New York a 94-86 lead. He later knocked down a clutch go-ahead three-pointer with just under two minutes remaining, which ultimately proved to be the game-winning shot.

New York looks to take a 2-0 series lead before heading home for the next two games, while Victor Wembanyama and the Spurs aim to respond and even the series Friday night.

Knicks vs. Spurs Best Bet: Julian Champagnie Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds

Julian Champagnie hasn’t shied away from shooting the basketball, particularly from three-point range. In fact, most of his scoring production this postseason has come from beyond the arc.

Champagnie made five shots against the Knicks in Game 1, all of which were three-pointers. He made one shot in the NBA Cup Championship against New York on Dec. 16, which was also a three. He scored a game-high 36 points against the Knicks on New Year’s Eve, with all but three points coming from three-pointers. He then made just one shot in the final regular-season meeting between the teams, which again was a three-pointer.

The point is simple: if Champagnie is going to score, there’s a good chance it will come from beyond the arc.

Although it’s risky to rely on Champagnie having a strong three-point shooting performance every game, he has scored 16 or more points in three of his last four games, including two 20-point outings. Combine that with his rebounding ability—he has recorded six or more rebounds in each of his last four games, including 10 rebounds in Game 1—and his Points + Rebounds market for Game 2 becomes worth considering.

  • Knicks vs. Spurs Game 2 Player Prop Pick: Julian Champagnie Over 16.5 Points + Rebounds (-125)
