We’re back to do another season win projection. A little totals game here with the boys.
We’ve got the Florida Gators on the docket today, so let’s make it nice and simple and go game by game through Florida’s 2026 schedule before heading over to Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook to put our money where our mouth is. The line is currently set at 7.5 wins at Hard Rock Bet, so we’ve got to get Florida to eight wins to hit the over.
Going into the season, even before Aaron Philo was named the starter, I said the floor was 8-4. I’m feeling a little bit less optimistic about that nowadays with Hard Rock Bet setting this at 7.5.
Let’s see if we can get there.
Florida Should Start 2-0 Against Florida Atlantic and Campbell
Let’s make the first two football games easy. Florida Atlantic comes to town, followed by Campbell. Florida will be starting 2-0.
I don’t see this being a repeat of the South Florida game from last year. Unfortunately for everybody outside of the Florida fan base, I don’t see that happening.
That being said, I don’t think Florida Atlantic and Campbell are quite the quality opponents South Florida was last year. That South Florida team was pretty damn good.
- Prediction: Florida starts 2-0, beating Florida Atlantic and Campbell
Florida at Auburn (Sept. 19)
Now we get to the first game on the road and the first conference game of the Jon Sumrall era.
Florida goes to Auburn for a little American Conference rematch between Alex Golesh and Sumrall. This will be the first SEC matchup for both coaches, and it’s a 7 p.m. kick at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
There’s a lot to take in. I would favor Florida based on sheer talent. That said, I don’t know how Sumrall is going to handle this Golesh offense, and there are a lot of things that play into Auburn’s favor.
It’s at home. It’s a night game. It’s one of the first SEC games of the season for this team. There’s an argument for leaning Auburn just a bit, but it wouldn’t be shocking at all if Florida wins. When this week rolls around, I think the line is going to be really close. I’d put it around a 2.5- or three-point spread right now.
Florida is the more talented team. I think the Gators have better pieces offensively when it comes to the wide receiver room, and I think they’ve got the better running back. We know the deal with Auburn’s defense, though. D.J. Durkin always has those boys ready to play and always has some special things lined up for every opponent. But I lean Florida personally.
There’s also some history here between these coaching staffs. Sumrall’s Tulane team beat Golesh and South Florida 45-10 in 2024, holding that offense pretty much at bay.
I like Florida in this matchup by a hair. I’m very curious to see how Sumrall handles the Jordan-Hare magic. I still believe in it. I know Auburn’s home record has been atrocious over the last five years, but I don’t believe Golesh is the football coach the previous two Auburn coaches were. I think he is considerably better.
Still, give me Florida.
- Prediction: Florida win (3-0)
Ole Miss at Florida (Sept. 26)
Next up on the docket is Ole Miss at home. Anybody who listens to this show knows how much of a fan we are of Kewan Lacy and Trinidad Chambliss. We also like Deuce Alexander.
Ole Miss has some really solid players defensively, and I think that’s where they’re going to take the leap this year. I don’t necessarily think it’s going to be on the offensive side of the football, but they’ve got plenty of offensive weapons and enough talent defensively.
The upset would be a lot of fun to watch here. The “Jon Sumrall has arrived in the Florida Gators era” game would be fun, and I could see it happening with this game being in Gainesville.
Personally, I’ll take Florida. But I’m outvoted. The boys are taking Ole Miss, so for predictive purposes, majority rules.
- Prediction: Ole Miss win (3-1)
Florida at Missouri (Oct. 3)
Now Florida goes on the road to play Missouri. I don’t think the Tigers are as good as the rankings say they are. I think this Florida defense can put Missouri and its offense in quite a bind.
There’s also a big question surrounding Ahmad Hardy. We don’t even know if he’ll be healthy at this point in the season. It’ll be five weeks into the year, and we have no idea what he’s going to look like or whether he’ll be back. Even if Hardy is healthy, though, I’d still take Florida.
I don’t necessarily see the hype with Missouri this year. SEC bias. That’s what that is. Give me the Gators.
- Prediction: Florida win (4-1)
South Carolina at Florida (Oct. 10)
That gets us to 4-1 going into a home game against South Carolina. I think this might be the year when they have to start looking at that Shane Beamer buyout up there. I’m leaning Florida in this October matchup.
South Carolina is such a volatile football team, though. You have no idea what the Gamecocks are going to look like, especially with this game sitting smack dab in the middle of the schedule. LaNorris Sellers still puts fear in people.
But I think Florida is going to be the more consistent football team. We’ll have a much better idea when we actually get to this game in October. As of now? Florida wins.
- Prediction: Florida win (5-1)
Florida at Texas (Oct. 17)
And here comes the real meat of Florida’s schedule. At Texas. Georgia. Oklahoma at home. In a four-week span, Florida plays three teams that entered the season ranked inside the top 10.
It’s hard for me to sit here right now and say Florida is going into Austin and winning that football game. I think it’ll be relatively close, but I’m giving it to Texas. Florida got them last year. I don’t think Florida is getting them again.
Texas added some really good pieces offensively. I think we’re going to see an improved version of Arch Manning, assuming the offensive line is there, and I think they’ll have a better running game.
There are some questions defensively for Texas, but I just think the Longhorns are the better football team. And it’s at Texas.
This is also around the point in the season when Texas woke up last year. They started firing on all cylinders around mid-October before traveling to Georgia. Maybe Steve Sarkisian and his team are up against the wall at this point. Maybe they’re fighting for everything. Either way, I’m going with Texas.
- Prediction: Texas win (5-2)
Georgia vs. Florida (Oct. 31)
Then we come to Georgia. This game is at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta this year while the stadium renovations are going on in Jacksonville. I always feel like I have to remind people about that because you’ll see this game on the schedule and think, “Oh, Jacksonville.” No, no, no. It’s at Mercedes-Benz this year.
I think this game is going to be a return to what this rivalry should be: a fourth-quarter, one-score football game. As of right now, though, I’m leaning Georgia. This game has been tracking that way over the last couple of years. Florida has had a lead in both of the last two meetings and had opportunities to win both games.
I don’t think this year is going to be much different. But Georgia is still more talented. Kirby Smart is still on the other sideline, and he’s handled Florida pretty well over his head-coaching career. It’s hard for me to say Jon Sumrall is going to walk into his first season and immediately take down one of the best coaches in college football. I think it’ll be close.
There’s also something that makes this matchup a little shaky for Georgia. Buster Faulkner put up tremendous performances against that Georgia defense during his time at Georgia Tech, and now he’s got a considerably more talented group of offensive players to take into this matchup.
Still, talent and coaching play into Georgia’s favor. Right now, you’ve got to go with the Bulldogs.
- Prediction: Georgia win (5-3)
Oklahoma at Florida (Nov. 7)
This is where I started thinking there’s no way Florida goes 0-3 through this stretch. They’re going to get one of these three football teams. Texas, Georgia, or Oklahoma.
I already said Texas and Georgia are going to beat them, so I’m going to give Florida the win at home against Oklahoma. I don’t know what I’m doing there. But I think they get one of them.
The boys disagree with me again. And look, if you get to the end of this season and Florida is 8-4 in Jon Sumrall’s first year, I think you’re okay with that as a Florida fan. Even if you go through a three-game stretch with three straight losses against three of the top teams in the conference – Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma – you can live with it.
Yeah, it’s going to burn. It’s going to suck because at some point you probably felt like you had an opportunity to make the College Football Playoff in Year 1 under Sumrall. But 8-4? You’d be okay.
From a talent and coaching standpoint, Brent Venables and Kirby Smart are similar in one important respect: They’re going to have very good defenses. Oklahoma will have a talented quarterback, too.
I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt, Florida fans. They’re over here doubting you left and right. But majority rules.
- Prediction: Oklahoma win (5-4)
Florida at Kentucky (Nov. 14)
Florida still has to go to Kentucky, and Lord knows that has been a sneaky football game over the years. Maybe that only applied to Mark Stoops. Stoops would rock-fight you into a 16-10 loss and leave you thinking, “Damn, that was a whole lot harder than I thought it was going to be.”
Something tells me Will Stein is going to approach things a little differently. “How about we just score more points than they do?” That can get a little ugly for you if you try too hard.
But when you look at the final three games – at Kentucky, Vanderbilt, and at Florida State – I expect all three of those programs to be down this year. I think Florida is better than all three.
Remember when Florida went on something like a 30-year winning streak against Kentucky? Billy Napier went 0-3 in Lexington. Good God. That tells you how bad it was. I think that streak ends this year. Florida finally gets its first win in Kentucky since 2019.
It’ll still be an interesting matchup because Lexington has become a house of horrors for Florida, and Will Stein isn’t a coach you can sleep on. But I’m going with Florida.
- Prediction: Florida win (6-4)
Vanderbilt at Florida (Nov. 21)
Speaking of quarterbacks, Vanderbilt named Blaze Berlowitz its starter. I wish Hard Rock Bet gave us odds on whether he’ll still be the starter for this football game because I’d put it at no. I’d be very surprised.
I imagine we’re going to get a heavy dose of Jared Curtis by late November. Either way, Florida beats Vanderbilt.
- Prediction: Florida win (7-4)
Florida at Florida State (Nov. 27)
And then we get Florida State to end the regular season. We all agree here. Florida rolls.
We got our first look at Florida State last weekend, and I don’t see any reason to believe the Seminoles are going to be on the up-and-coming this year. Florida is the better football team.
That gets us exactly where we needed to go. Eight wins.
- Prediction: Florida win (8-4)
Florida Win-Total Prediction
Now let’s pull up the Hard Rock Bet app and put our money where our mouth is. Our game-by-game predictions put Florida at eight regular-season wins, giving the Gators a projected record of 8-4.
Florida Over 7.5 Regular-Season Wins (+135)
Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook has Florida’s regular-season win total set at 7.5, with the over priced at +135. They nailed that line.
We went through the entire schedule and got Florida to eight wins, so we’re taking the plus money.
- Florida over 7.5 regular-season wins (+135)
Florida to Record Exactly Eight Regular-Season Wins (+425)
Here’s what else I like. Hard Rock Bet also offers a regular-season exact wins market. Go to the SEC, scroll down to the Florida Gators, and exactly eight wins is sitting there at +425. That’s good.
There are obviously eight wins on this schedule that you can pencil in based on our predictions. We gave Florida losses to Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia, and Oklahoma while picking the Gators to win the rest of their slate.
The one game that might trip you up is Auburn on the road. Outside of that, I think Florida can handle the rest of this schedule. No disrespect to Missouri and South Carolina.
I like that +425 play right there at exactly eight wins.
- Florida to record exactly eight regular-season wins (+425)
The Film Guy’s Florida Futures Picks
Our game-by-game breakdown lands Florida at 8-4 in Jon Sumrall’s first season, and we’ve got two Hard Rock Bet futures that line up directly with that prediction:
- Florida over 7.5 regular-season wins (+135)
- Florida to record exactly eight regular-season wins (+425)
We’ll play them both. 8-4 in Year 1 under Sumrall? I think Florida fans would be okay with that.
