The No. 7 Miami Hurricanes (1-0, 1-0 ACC) are back in action Thursday night for an all-Florida college football matchup against the Florida A&M Rattlers (1-1, 0-0 SWAC) at Hard Rock Stadium.
Florida A&M has already played two games this season, and after a 20-7 win against Albany State to open the year, the Rattlers fell to South Carolina State 31-13 this past Sunday in the Orange Blossom Classic. The Rattlers took a 3-0 lead after a 14-play drive ended with a 30-yard field goal, but after quarterback Isaiah Knowles lost a fumble on the very first play of their next possession, Florida A&M couldn’t get much going for the remainder of the game.
Florida A&M converted only 24% of its third-down attempts, had just 161 total yards of offense, including -1 rushing yards on 30 attempts, committed nine penalties, and turned the ball over once in the loss. That’s a recipe for disaster when having to face one of the top teams in the country in Miami on a short week.
Miami opened its 2026 season in dominant fashion with a 45-6 win against Stanford, accumulating 549 yards of total offense. Transfer quarterback Darian Mensah had an incredible debut with the Hurricanes, completing 27 of his 30 passes for 401 yards and five touchdowns with a 96.4 quarterback rating. Mensah’s top target was unsurprisingly Malachi Toney, who picked up right where he left off after a stellar freshman season in 2025, hauling in 12 receptions for 234 yards and three touchdowns against Stanford’s defense.
If there’s anything negative to point out from Miami’s win against Stanford, it’s that the run game wasn’t very effective and the offense turned the ball over once. Granted, the turnover was a fourth-quarter interception thrown by backup quarterback Luke Nickel. While Miami’s passing attack was exceptional, Mark Fletcher Jr. and the Hurricanes’ run game didn’t enjoy the same success. Miami finished the game with 121 yards on the ground, but Fletcher managed just 40 yards on 13 carries, while the entire run game averaged only 3.8 yards per carry.

Miami vs. Florida A&M Best Bet: Over 64.5 Points (-110)
Miami’s offense was unstoppable last week against Stanford, particularly Darian Mensah and Malachi Toney in the passing attack, so just imagine what the Hurricanes could be able to do against a Florida A&M defense that didn’t have its best performance a few days ago against South Carolina State.
Florida A&M allowed 479 total yards of offense to South Carolina State, including 292 rushing yards. Mark Fletcher Jr. may not have made much of an impact last week for Miami, but the senior running back should be licking his chops at the opportunity to face the Rattlers’ defense Thursday night. Just as a reminder, Fletcher led the ACC with 1,192 rushing yards last season and also scored 14 total touchdowns.
Miami alone has a chance to hit this Over, but any points scored by Florida A&M would also help.
