Brewers vs. Rays World Series Game 4 Preview
The Brewers are one win away from doing something no other team in franchise history has ever done: win a World Series championship. Meanwhile, the Rays will attempt to do something no other team in MLB history has ever accomplished: come back from a 3-0 deficit in the World Series.
Milwaukee is in this position after winning back-to-back tightly contested games to open the series before earning a wild 10-1 road victory in Game 3 Monday night. The Brewers scored two runs to take a 2-0 lead in the third inning, but then the craziness began in the fifth.
With two outs and the bases loaded in the fifth inning, Brewers second baseman Brice Turang hit a two-RBI single to start a historic rally. It was the first of six consecutive RBI hits that saw eight runs score in the inning to put Milwaukee up 10-0.
It wasn’t an RBI hit like the others, but William Contreras reached on an infield single right before Turang’s hit, making it seven consecutive hits for the Brewers. It marked the first time in postseason history that a team had seven consecutive batters record a hit. The Brewers’ eight runs with two outs in the inning also made postseason history, marking the most in any World Series inning and the second-most in any single postseason inning.
Dustin May is expected to start tonight’s potential World Series clincher for the Brewers. The right-hander has made four appearances this postseason, including one start in the NLDS against San Diego, and owns a 5.63 playoff ERA across eight innings. His most recent appearance came as a reliever in Game 2 of the World Series, when he tossed a scoreless fifth inning against the top of the Rays’ lineup.
The Rays’ backs are now against the wall with no margin for error, and Tampa Bay is turning to veteran right-hander Griffin Jax to make the Game 4 start. Jax has made two appearances this postseason, including a two-inning stint out of the bullpen in which he allowed one run in the ALDS against the New York Yankees, followed by a Game 3 start against Cleveland in the ALCS.
Jax allowed five hits and three earned runs over four innings and was charged with the loss in that start, bringing his 2026 postseason ERA to 6.00. It’s important to note that he hasn’t pitched since that Oct. 15 outing against Cleveland, meaning he hasn’t been in a live, competitive game in nearly two weeks. He’s now expected to take the mound with the Rays’ season on the line.
