The PGA Tour heads south to TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas this week for the 2026 CJ Cup Byron Nelson, set to begin on Thursday, May 21 and run through Sunday, May 24. The annual Texas stop once again features one of the friendliest scoring environments on the PGA Tour schedule, as a watered-down field prepares to attack the 7,569-yard par-71 layout that has consistently produced winning scores deep into the 20-under range. A total purse of $10.3 million is on the line this week, with the winner set to take home $1,854,000.

TPC Craig Ranch has developed a reputation as a pure birdie-fest since taking over hosting duties in 2021. K.H. Lee won both of the first two editions at 25-under and 26-under respectively, Jason Day won at 23-under in 2023, Taylor Pendrith reached 23-under during his breakthrough victory in 2024, and Scottie Scheffler completely dismantled the course last season with a staggering winning score of 31-under par.

The Tour arrives in Texas following a stunning finish at last weekend’s PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, where Aaron Rai delivered one of the biggest surprises in recent major championship history. Rai entered the week at 200-1 odds and shocked the golf world by locking up his first career major victory, becoming one of the largest underdogs to win a major championship this century. Following his monumental win, Rai officially withdrew from the CJ Cup Byron Nelson on Monday morning and will not make the trip to Texas.

With Rai out of the field and several other top names skipping the event following the PGA Championship, all eyes immediately shift toward Scottie Scheffler (+170), who enters as an overwhelming favorite on his home state’s soil. At +170, Scheffler carries one of the shortest outright prices we’ve seen on a pre-tournament favorite in quite some time, underscoring both the lighter field and his incredible history at TPC Craig Ranch.

Behind Scheffler, Si Woo Kim (+1400) enters the event after another strong showing at Craig Ranch last season, where he finished T15. Texas native Jordan Spieth (+1600) will once again be one of the main attractions in front of the home crowd after a closing 62 vaulted him into a solo 4th finish in last year’s rendition. Brooks Koepka (+2500) also joins the field looking to quickly regroup following the PGA Championship, bringing his major-winning pedigree into a tournament that desperately needs more star power.

The next tier of contenders offers plenty of intriguing value entering the week. Keith Mitchell (+3000) headlines the group, while Pierceson Coody (+4000) and Michael Thorbjornsen (+4000) both arrive with games that should be perfectly suited for a shootout-style setup. Outside of those seven, Wyndham Clark (+5000), Ryo Hisatsune (+5000), Rasmus Højgaard (+5000), and Davis Thompson (+5000) are the only other golfers listed with odds of 50-1 or shorter to win this week.
