Jake Bauers is hitting a respectable .269 this postseason and is coming off an incredible performance against the Dodgers in which he was named the NLCS MVP. He hit .286 in the series and delivered multiple big moments.
Bauers hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the seventh inning of Game 3 and then had a three-RBI performance in Game 4, including driving in the tying run in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded walk. The Stats Hub also notes that Bauers has recorded a hit in each of the Brewers’ last five games.
Bauers hasn’t had many head-to-head matchups with Rays Game 1 starting pitcher Nick Martinez, but he does have one hit in five career at-bats against him. He also hit .300 against Tampa Bay during the regular season, including a home run, albeit in limited at-bats.

Rays vs. Brewers World Series Game 1 Preview
The 2026 World Series is a unique one. Neither the Rays nor the Brewers have ever won a World Series championship in their respective franchises’ history, but that will change for one of them within the next eight days.
The Rays will be making their third World Series appearance and first since 2020, when they lost to the Dodgers in six games. To get here, Tampa Bay swept its AL East rivals, the New York Yankees, in the ALDS and then won three consecutive games against Cleveland in the ALCS after falling behind 2-1 in the series to punch its ticket to the Fall Classic.
The Brewers’ franchise has been around much longer in MLB than the Rays’, but Milwaukee is making just its second World Series appearance. The first came back in 1982, when the Brewers lost to St. Louis in seven games while still playing in the American League.
The Brewers had an outstanding 2026 regular season, finishing with the best record in MLB at 103-59, which also marked the most wins in franchise history. Milwaukee took care of San Diego in four games in the NLDS and then got its revenge against Los Angeles in the NLCS with a four-game sweep after the Dodgers swept the Brewers in the 2025 NLCS.
Likely 2026 NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob Misiorowski is set to make the biggest start of his career Friday night after being named the Brewers’ Game 1 starter. Misiorowski posted a 16-5 record during the regular season and led MLB with a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 252 strikeouts. He has made two starts so far this postseason and wasn’t factored into the decision in either.
The Rays will counter with All-Star right-hander Nick Martinez. The veteran also pitched very well during the regular season and has continued to do so in the playoffs. Martinez has a 3.00 playoff ERA through two starts this postseason and earned the win with 5.1 strong innings of work in Tampa Bay’s 7-3 victory over Cleveland in Game 4 of the ALCS.
