Middle Tennessee travels to Miami on Tuesday night to face Florida International in a Conference USA matchup between two teams with identical 3-3 overall records and 1-1 marks in conference play. Kickoff from Pitbull Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m. ET on CBS Sports Network.
Middle Tennessee opened the season with a 38-14 victory over Murray State before suffering a narrow 28-26 road loss to Marshall. The Blue Raiders bounced back with a 27-20 win over Nevada but struggled in their next two outings, falling 23-13 at Jacksonville State and 55-0 at Kansas.
The Blue Raiders returned home last Tuesday and picked up their first conference victory with a 33-30 win over Delaware. Quarterback Roman Gagliano threw for 291 yards and three touchdowns, including the go-ahead score to Neo Clifton with just over three minutes remaining.
FIU began its season with a 19-9 loss at South Florida before defeating Buffalo 33-20 at home. Following a 16-10 defeat at Florida Atlantic, the Panthers returned to Pitbull Stadium for consecutive victories over LIU and New Mexico State, outscoring those opponents 42-6.
The Panthers suffered their first conference loss last Tuesday, falling 27-24 at Jacksonville State. Quarterback JJ Kohl completed 24 of 38 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns, but FIU couldn’t come away with the road victory.
FIU has won the last two meetings between these programs, including a 56-30 victory over Middle Tennessee last season.

Middle Tennessee vs. FIU Prediction
Under 45.5 (-110): Both Middle Tennessee and FIU have gone 4-2 to the Under through their first six games.
FIU is allowing just 14.7 points and approximately 266 yards per game, ranking among the nation’s top defenses in both categories. The Panthers have been especially tough to beat at Pitbull Stadium, where they’re undefeated through three games and have allowed just six combined points across their last two home contests.
Middle Tennessee’s performances away from home haven’t inspired much confidence. The Blue Raiders are winless in three away games, averaging just 13 points per contest while being held scoreless in their most recent road game against Kansas.
Additionally, FIU hasn’t exactly been lighting up the scoreboard itself. Despite averaging more than 380 yards of offense per game, the Panthers are scoring just 19.7 points per contest and have struggled to finish drives with touchdowns.
The Panthers’ red zone offense has been its weak point, converting just seven of 22 trips inside the opponent’s 20-yard line into touchdowns. That’s good for a 31.8% touchdown rate, among the lowest in the country.
With FIU’s defense clicking on all cylinders and neither offense consistently putting up points, we’re backing Under 45.5 total points on Tuesday night.
