There’s college football taking place in Texas Thursday night, and no, we’re not talking about Florida vs. No. 7 Texas at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium. That game isn’t until Saturday afternoon. First, there’s a Pac-12 matchup at UFCU Stadium between the Texas State Bobcats (2-3, 0-1 Pac-12) and the Colorado State Rams (2-3, 0-1 Pac-12).

Texas State played the aforementioned Texas Longhorns back in Week 1, resulting in a 50-9 loss for the Bobcats. They then blew a 23-17 lead heading into the fourth quarter in a game that ended 31-26 in favor of UTSA before picking up back-to-back wins against North Texas and Incarnate Word, scoring 112 points between the two victories.

However, Texas State found itself back in the loss column after a 31-29 defeat to San Diego State to open conference play, giving up a go-ahead 40-yard touchdown pass with under two minutes remaining in the Bobcats’ most recent game on Oct. 3.

Colorado State went 8-5 in 2024, but things haven’t gone well since then. Former head coach Jay Norvell was fired after a 2-5 start in 2025 and was replaced by interim head coach Tyson Summers, who went 0-5 to finish the season. Colorado State then hired Jim Mora ahead of the program’s first season in the Pac-12 and retained Summers as the defensive coordinator.

A bizarre sequence of events recently unfolded during the Rams’ 56-26 loss to Oregon State on Oct. 3. Summers was relieved of his defensive play-calling duties during the first half and then left the field on his own, ultimately resulting in his dismissal from the program.

Thursday night’s game will be Colorado State’s first since that incident, and things aren’t necessarily looking great at the moment, as the Rams enter on a three-game losing streak. Quarterback Hauss Hejny, who helped lead the Rams to a 2-0 start before suffering a hamstring injury during the first quarter of Colorado State’s 41-23 loss to current No. 8 BYU on Sept. 19, is also in jeopardy of missing his third consecutive game.

Hejny is progressing, traveled with the team to San Marcos, and carries a questionable designation into Thursday night’s game against Texas State, but he still might not start even if he’s cleared to play. Sophomore quarterback K’saan Farrar would be in line to make his third straight start if Hejny can’t go after completing 63% of his passes for 522 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception over his last two games in Hejny’s absence.

Texas State vs. Colorado State Best Bet: Over 69.5 Points (-115)

At first glance, Thursday night’s total being set at 69.5 points may seem like a lot for a pair of 2-3 teams, but if there’s one thing about Colorado State and Texas State this year, it’s that these two offenses can be explosive.

Yes, Colorado State could be without quarterback Hauss Hejny again, but K’saan Farrar has played well in his absence. However, the Rams could also be without another major playmaker, as leading receiver RJ Vick, who has 367 receiving yards and five total touchdowns, is listed as questionable and considered a long shot to suit up.

Luckily for Colorado State, it features other dangerous receivers, such as Terrence Smith Jr., as well as a lethal run game led by senior running back Mel Brown. Brown has also been on the injury report, but he’s expected to play as he looks to add to his 409 rushing yards, three touchdowns, and whopping 10 yards per carry.

Texas State also features an elite run game with a one-two punch between Torrance Burgess Jr. and Davian Jackson. Burgess leads the Bobcats with 614 rushing yards, while Jackson leads the team with five rushing touchdowns and also has three receiving touchdowns this year. Texas State’s receiving corps is also not too shabby, with Chris Dawn Jr. leading the group with 304 yards and four touchdowns.

As a team, Colorado State is averaging 37.4 points and nearly 450 total yards of offense per game this season, while Texas State is averaging 34.8 points and over 530 total yards per game. From a defensive standpoint, Colorado State is allowing 38.6 points per game this season and 52 per contest over its last three matchups, while Texas State is allowing 33.2 points per game.

Not to mention, both teams are coming into this matchup well-rested, having not played since Oct. 3.

Texas State vs. Colorado State Total Pick for Oct. 15: Over 69.5 Points (-115)
