Chicago is also 5-4 since returning from the All-Star break and is coming off a series loss to Houston, though the White Sox salvaged the finale with a 12-3 victory on Sunday behind Munetaka Murakami’s two-home run, six-RBI performance.
The White Sox will send 6-foot-10 rookie left-hander Noah Schultz to the mound for Monday’s series opener, making the 13th start of his major league career. Schultz is still adjusting to the big leagues, posting a 3-7 record with a 6.04 ERA. Veteran left-hander Max Fried is expected to start for the Yankees in just his second outing since returning from a two-month absence because of an elbow injury. Fried looked as sharp as ever in his return, throwing five scoreless innings of one-hit baseball with seven strikeouts against Pittsburgh.
