England vs. Argentina. A rivalry that gave us Diego Maradona’s infamous “Hand of God” in 1986 and a dramatic World Cup penalty shootout in 1998 returns to football’s biggest stage in the 2026 World Cup semifinals.
Two of the tournament’s most talented – and entertaining – teams arrive in Atlanta having navigated dramatic knockout-round runs. Both have produced moments of individual brilliance, both have shown vulnerabilities at the back, and both have already proven they can handle the pressure of extra time when the stakes are highest.
It’s a semifinal with history, star power, and all the ingredients of an instant World Cup classic. Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook has betting markets to match the occasion, from odds on who reaches the final to goalscorer props, shots, corners, and Same Game Parlays that let you build your own story.
Below, you’ll find everything you need ahead of this marquee showdown, including the latest England vs. Argentina odds, my favorite betting picks, and best predictions for the World Cup semifinal.
Argentina vs England Half-time Odds
The three-way moneyline bet is alive and well for all knockout round fixtures. Bettors can take their stab at either team to win, or bet on the tie. The current odds with the score locked at 0-0 at the break are:
- 🏴 England to Win: +190 (was +165 pre-match)
- 🪢 Tie/Draw: +130 (was +185 pre-match)
- 🇦🇷 Argentina to Win: +240 (was +210 pre-match)
Current England vs Argentina Odds to Advance (HALF)
Bettors can opt-out of sweating extra time by choosing the ‘To Advance‘ soccer betting market. With this one it doesn’t matter how they advance (extra time winner, penalties, blowout, etc.), it only matters that they advance. Updated ‘to advance’ odds for half time include:
- 🏴 Current England Odds to Advance: -130 (was -125 pre-match) — 56% to advance
- 🇦🇷 Current Argentina Odds to Advance: +105 (was +100 pre-match) — 49% to advance
Who is favored, Argentina or England?
While this matchup is pretty close to being a pick’em spot, England is currently a very narrow betting favorite to beat Argentina and advance to their first World Cup Final since 1966.
England’s -125 ‘to advance’ price carries an implied probability of around 55% per our betting odds calculator, and Argentina’s even +100 price has them at 50% to advance. Again – this is verging on a pick’em, but England carries a slightly higher probability of advancing based on the betting odds.

Argentina vs England Predictions
Every World Cup prediction I make starts with the same process. First, I build my own view of how I expect the match to unfold. Then I test those instincts against the numbers inside the Hard Rock Bet Stats Hub to see where the data agrees – and where it doesn’t. For today’s massive England vs. Argentina World Cup semifinal, those two approaches point me in the same direction.
Here are my favorite England vs. Argentina predictions:
England vs Argentina Moneyline Pick: England to Advance -125
Full disclosure, this isn’t a Stats Hub play and may well age poorly. Argentina are the defending champions, they have the pedigree, they have the best soccer player of all time… but I can’t shake the feeling that they’re starting to tire. At 39 years old Messi has played a lot of minutes this summer over a very short period of time and he hasn’t looked as clinical in recent games as he did through the group stage.
With that in mind, for the last few weeks I’ve been looking for ways to short Argentina and I think this may be our final opportunity at this 2026 World Cup to do it. For Argentina vs Egypt I gave out the tie at +375… we got agonizingly close, but Argentina rescued the 2-0 deficit with the late stoppage time winner. For Argentina vs Switzerland I gave out the draw again at +260, and sure enough, we cashed it as extra time was required against the stoic 10-man Swiss defense.
England are a better team than Cape Verde, who pushed Argentina to extra time. They’re a better team than Egypt, who took a 2-0 lead but couldn’t hold on… and they’re a better team than Switzerland, who despite being down a man for the last 30 minutes of the game, still came within minutes of forcing a penalty shootout.
England have an elite coach, they have legitimate stars up and down their lineup, and they’ll offer Argentina a completely different challenge than the other sides they’ve faced in the knockout round. Argentina are absolutely capable of raising their level, but they haven’t done it yet and they finally have an opponent across the field with the capability of punishing them.
- WC Semifinal Prediction: England to Advance (-125). Gulp.
Argentina vs England Prediction – Both Teams to Score: YES -110
Stats Hub points out that Argentina have been a BTTS monster in the knockout stages of recent World Cups over an increasingly large sample. Seven of their last eight World Cup Knockout round games have cashed the BTTS market and I don’t think there’s any reason to believe this one will be different.
Both Argentina and England have shown an ability to score goals, and an inability to keep them out. Both Teams to Score has cashed in all three of Argentina’s knockout games (that produced an eye-watering 14 total goals), and Both Teams to Score has cashed in all three of England’s knockout games, too.
Finally, we’re currently getting this one at -110, not -160… and at that price, I’m in on Both Teams to Score.
- WC Semifinal Best Bet: Both Teams to Score – YES (-110)
England vs Argentina Goalscorer Pick: Harry Kane Anytime Goalscorer +150
Jude Bellingham’s been the player of the tournament so far for England after scoring a brace against Mexico at the Azteca, and following it up with another brace against Norway in the quarterfinals… but make no mistake, Harry Kane is still the main man for this England team. The England captain doesn’t come off the field unless the game is all but sown up and per Stats Hub, he’s scored in four of England’s last five knockout round games at the World Cup… and the game he fell short in was on Saturday against Norway, so you could argue that he’s due.
He’s the most clinical striker left at this World Cup – he’s in fine form after an incredible season at Bayern Munich, and he will lead the line again against an Argentina defense that’s leaked 5 goals in 3 knockout games so far against much lesser opposition. At +150, I love the talent, the situation, and the price.
- WC Semifinal Best Goalscorer Bet: Harry Kane Anytime Goalscorer (+150)
World Cup Futures for England, Argentina
There’s only three teams left that can win the World Cup… Spain, who advanced to the final yesterday and are a significant favorite to lift the trophy, and today’s semifinalists: Argentina & England. If you think either team will knock off Spain, the price won’t get any better after today’s match – so it’s worth considering a wager now.
- 🇦🇷 Argentina Odds to Win the World Cup: +375
- 🏴 England Odds to Win the World Cup: +275
