App State enters Thursday’s matchup following a 35-32 road victory over Coastal Carolina last Friday. The Mountaineers trailed 24-14 at halftime before rallying in the second half to secure their first conference win of the season.

Running back Jaquari Lewis scored four rushing touchdowns in the victory, while quarterback Henry Hasselbeck provided a spark off the bench, rushing for 125 yards and throwing a touchdown pass.

Starting quarterback Malachi Singleton has been dealing with an ankle injury, leaving his availability for Thursday uncertain. Singleton started against Coastal Carolina before Hasselbeck took over in the second half.

James Madison vs. App State Prediction

App State +10.5 (-110): App State’s last appearance at Kidd Brewer Stadium resulted in a disappointing 10-3 loss to Old Dominion, but I expect a much better effort Thursday night against the Sun Belt’s top team. The Mountaineers have had nearly two weeks to put that performance behind them and now get an opportunity to knock off an undefeated conference rival in front of a sold-out home crowd.

James Madison has been impressive this season, but the Dukes have had some closer calls away from home. JMU needed a second-half comeback to escape Georgia Southern with a 27-24 victory on October 10, while its September trip to San Diego State resulted in a 26-13 win.

App State also has some encouraging history in this matchup. The Mountaineers lead the all-time series 14-6 and have won eight of 11 meetings against James Madison in Boone. They’ve also split their four meetings since JMU joined the Sun Belt in 2022.

With the Mountaineers coming off an encouraging road win and looking to redeem themselves after a poor showing at home, I’ll take the points in what should be a close one on Thursday night.
