Game 2 of this three-game series between the New York Yankees (78-60) and Los Angeles Angels (53-85) takes place Tuesday night at Angel Stadium. The Angels were on a seven-game losing streak heading into Monday’s opener but snapped it with a 10-1 win over the Yankees to get back into the win column.
The Angels did most of their damage in the middle innings of Monday night’s win, scoring seven of their 10 runs between the third and sixth innings before adding three more in the eighth behind Vaughn Grissom’s two-RBI double and Christian Moore’s RBI single. Angels rookie right-hander Walbert Ureña put together a terrific start on the mound, tossing seven innings of one-run baseball and lowering his season ERA to 2.85.
Los Angeles will turn to 26-year-old right-hander Grayson Rodriguez, who owns a 6.03 ERA across 15 starts this season but has really begun to turn things around, posting a 2.93 ERA through five starts in August. The Yankees will counter with veteran right-hander Gerrit Cole, who is 7-7 with a 3.19 ERA since returning from Tommy John surgery and owns a 2.65 ERA since July 3.

Angels vs. Yankees Best Bet: Yankees Moneyline (-195)
Credit to the Angels for snapping their losing streak and earning a dominant win against the Yankees Monday night, but New York is simply the better team. With an established and highly successful veteran pitcher in Gerrit Cole on the mound against an Angels team that has 25 fewer wins than the Yankees, it’s hard to go against New York and expect it to lose two games in a row to start this series.
If there’s anything positive to look at for the Angels, it’s that Grayson Rodriguez has been pitching very well lately, and they’re obviously bringing momentum into Tuesday night’s game following their blowout victory in the series opener. That doesn’t necessarily change the fact that the Angels’ offense has been one of the least productive in MLB this season, particularly since the All-Star break.
