Wednesday’s MLB slate opens with a series finale in Detroit, Michigan, between the Tigers (66-79) and Minnesota Twins (69-76) in an AL Central matchup at Comerica Park. The Tigers opened the series with a 5-4 win Monday, but the Twins responded with a one-run win of their own Tuesday in a 3-2 ballgame to set up Wednesday’s rubber match.

It was a tightly contested matchup in Monday’s opener, but the Tigers took advantage of a few costly errors by the Twins and also outpowered Minnesota with home runs by rookie Kevin McGonigle and outfielder Riley Greene to start the series on the right note. The Twins took a 1-0 lead in the first inning Tuesday, and while McGonigle hit a go-ahead two-run home run in the fifth to give Detroit the lead, Kody Clemens hit his 25th home run of the year with a go-ahead two-run shot to put Minnesota back on top. The Twins’ bullpen then tossed four scoreless innings to secure the win.

Twins right-hander Zebby Matthews is scheduled to start Wednesday afternoon. He’s 9-9 with a 4.69 ERA this season, but prior to allowing four earned runs and taking the loss against the Chicago White Sox on Sept. 4, he was a perfect 5-0 with a 2.90 ERA across five August starts. The Tigers will counter with right-hander Keider Montero, who is set to make his 30th appearance and 24th start of the year, bringing a 3.52 ERA into the matchup. He’ll look to bounce back after a rough first start of September in which he allowed eight hits and six earned runs over four innings against Cleveland.

We’ve got Twins vs. Tigers predictions, picks, and more for Wednesday afternoon’s series finale at Comerica Park as both teams look to remain in the mix in the American League playoff race.

Twins vs. Tigers Predictions

Every game matters for the Twins and Tigers as both teams look to remain in playoff contention with just a few weeks left in the regular season, so don’t miss the opportunity to get in on the action at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook in what has already been a tightly contested series between division rivals. Check out the Stats Hub, where you can find our Twins vs. Tigers prediction for Wednesday’s game, along with baseball betting insights and trends to support it:

Tigers vs. Twins Best Bet: Zebby Matthews Over 4.5 Strikeouts (+110)

Zebby Matthews is by no means known as a strikeout pitcher, averaging under five strikeouts per start this season and roughly five per outing across his 45 career starts. His 7.46 K/9 this season is also below the MLB average. However, he faces a Tigers offense Wednesday afternoon that has struck out the eighth-most times among all teams in 2026, with its 90 strikeouts so far in September being the most in the majors.

The risky part here is that Matthews has recorded five or more strikeouts in only 50% of his starts this season and has had exactly four strikeouts in seven of his 20 starts, including his last outing. It’s also worth mentioning that the Stats Hub notes Matthews has recorded four or more strikeouts in each of his last 23 road appearances.
