AL East rivals meet on Monday’s MLB slate as the Boston Red Sox (27-36) take on the Tampa Bay Rays (37-25) in the series opener at Tropicana Field in Florida. These teams have already met once this season in Boston, with the Rays winning the series two games to one.

The Red Sox’s disappointing season continues after already firing former manager Alex Cora earlier this year and remaining in last place in the division. Boston is 4-3 over its last seven games but enters Monday coming off a 6-1 loss to the Yankees on Sunday afternoon.

The Rays, meanwhile, sit atop the AL East and remain one of the better teams in baseball despite a recent slump. Tampa Bay has lost 10 of its last 13 games and is coming off a series loss to Miami over the weekend.

Young left-hander Connelly Early, who is 5-3 with a 3.26 ERA in 12 starts, is scheduled to start for Boston. The Rays will counter with Ian Seymour serving as an opener. The only other time Seymour started for Tampa Bay this season, he allowed two hits and one earned run across two innings against Miami on May 15.

Red Sox vs. Rays Best Bet: Willson Contreras Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Willson Contreras is enjoying an excellent first season in Boston, slashing .298/.391/.540 with a .931 OPS, 13 home runs, and 39 RBIs.

The three-time All-Star carried a hot bat through May and has continued that success into June, batting .421 through his first five games of the month.

Contreras enters Monday riding a four-game hitting streak that includes three multi-hit performances. During that stretch, he has recorded three doubles, two home runs, six RBIs, and three runs scored.

The Rays are expected to use Ian Seymour as an opener Monday night. Seymour owns a 5.23 ERA across 26 appearances and allowed three earned runs in his most recent outing. Mason Englert is also expected to pitch after Seymour and carries a 4.71 ERA through 11 appearances.
