Jax pitched five innings of two-hit, one-run baseball in the win, and the Braves’ offense managed just three hits against Tampa Bay’s pitching staff, resulting in Atlanta entering Thursday on a three-game losing streak.
Veteran left-hander Martín Pérez is scheduled to make the start for the Braves Thursday afternoon in what will be his 24th start of the year and 28th appearance overall. Pérez is 8-9 with a 3.25 ERA, and after posting a 1.76 ERA across six starts in August, he ran into trouble in his previous outing when he allowed seven hits, four walks, and four earned runs over 3.2 innings in a loss to Philadelphia on Sept. 5. All-Star right-hander Nick Martinez will make the start opposite Pérez as the veteran brings a 14-4 record and 3.04 ERA with the Rays into the matchup.
