Baseball fans get a nice treat Friday night to kick off the weekend with an elite pitching matchup in Seattle. Logan Gilbert and the Mariners (8-12) host Jacob deGrom and the Texas Rangers (10-9) in the opening game of a three-game set between two AL West rivals.
The Mariners have been scuffling as of late, coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of the San Diego Padres, and will be glad to be back home at T-Mobile Park, where they’re 7-4 to start the 2026 MLB season, compared to a disastrous 1-8 record on the road. The Rangers, on the other hand, are tied atop the division and are coming off a 9-6 win against the Athletics on Thursday in a series they split 2-2.
These two teams have already met once this season in Texas, where the Rangers swept the Mariners in a three-game series at Globe Life Field.

deGrom vs. Gilbert Pitching Matchup
Jacob deGrom has been one of the best starting pitchers of the last decade when healthy, and the 37-year-old right-hander is off to another impressive start this season. After earning his fifth All-Star selection and finishing eighth in American League Cy Young voting last year, deGrom is 1-0 with a 2.87 ERA and 22 strikeouts across his first three starts of 2026.
Opposing deGrom is Logan Gilbert. The 28-year-old may not have deGrom’s résumé, but he has proven to be an effective starter with Cy Young potential. Gilbert allowed eight earned runs across 10.2 innings through his first two starts of 2026, but has since allowed just three earned runs over his last two outings, including his first win of the season in his most recent start.
These two pitchers have already faced off once this season on April 6 in Texas. Gilbert took the loss despite a solid outing, allowing two earned runs over six innings, while deGrom was dominant, allowing just one hit, a solo home run to Cal Raleigh, and recording six strikeouts across five innings of work.
It’s not every day you get an elite pitching matchup like this. deGrom will look to continue his strong start to the year, while Gilbert is tasked with getting the Mariners back in the win column and building off his dominant outing last time out.
