Sam Houston is coming off a 16-3 home loss to Western Kentucky last Wednesday, dropping its third consecutive game and second in conference play. The Bearkats trailed 10-3 at halftime and were held scoreless over the final two quarters.
Quarterback Landyn Locke completed 13 of 30 passes for 112 yards and an interception, while running back MJ Dowdy led the team with 55 rushing yards. The Bearkats finished with just 177 yards of total offense and were penalized nine times for 100 yards.
Wednesday marks the fourth meeting between these programs, with New Mexico State holding a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series. Sam Houston won the last matchup in Huntsville, defeating the Aggies 31-11 in 2024.

Sam Houston +2.5 (+100): New Mexico State has yet to win away from home this season, dropping all three of its road games. The Aggies have struggled to produce consistent offense outside Las Cruces, scoring just 39 combined points across those three contests.
Sam Houston was in a similar spot last Wednesday, hosting Western Kentucky as a slight home underdog but failing to take advantage. The Bearkats now get another opportunity at home against a New Mexico State team that hasn’t won on the road.
While Sam Houston’s offense remains a concern, its defense has been competitive. The Bearkats are allowing approximately 338 yards per game, including fewer than 140 passing yards per contest. They’ve also held five of their six opponents below 200 passing yards.
They now have an encouraging matchup against a New Mexico State passing attack that has struggled with limiting turnovers. The Aggies have thrown seven interceptions this season, including two against FIU, and could have trouble moving the ball consistently against Sam Houston’s secondary.
