Across the U.S., Google searches for online craps odds and strategy have seen a massive surge in the last year, increasing by 70% for odds and 60% for strategy. Because of this recent and growing interest in craps and online casino games, Hard Rock Bet Online Casino has analyzed more than 3.3 million craps bets between April and June 2026 in Michigan and New Jersey.
With the results of our analysis, we’ve pulled together a report that offers a unique insight into how players bet on craps, from the most and least popular numbers, to players’ preferred strategies as well. Keep reading to uncover the most popular ways for Americans to play online craps!
The Craps Questions North Americans Are Asking
Based on people’s Google searches in America, we’ve been able to pick out the main questions that have been asked about craps. The results are able to give us a little more insight into people’s understanding of craps and how to play it.
New Jerseyans seem to be the most well-versed and knowledgeable on the rules, having the lowest percentage of searches relating to how craps works (36%). Instead, they’re more focused on searching for the bets and payouts (42%) or strategy (22%) compared to other states and provinces.
Michigan then showed a similar pattern, having near-identical percentages of Google searches relating to the same topics. Here, they had a high number of searches regarding bets and payouts (42%), with rules (38%) taking more of a back foot compared to other locations. Strategy was also of interest here, as it had the second-highest percentage of searches compared to other states (21%).
People in Ontario and Pennsylvania appeared to be more likely to look up the rules, given that plenty of their searches were related to how the game worked (40%). Strategy also saw marginally less interest in Ontario (20%) and Pennsylvania (19%), with bets and payouts also receiving slightly less interest as well – 41% in Ontario and 40% in Pennsylvania.
America’s Favorite Craps Bets & Strategies
Now that you know what North Americans are looking up about craps, let’s delve into their favorite craps strategies and bets.
Some clear patterns emerged, as Place bets accounted for 39% of all wagers. This makes them the most dominant betting style in online craps! One-roll proposition bets, where the outcome is decided on a single dice roll (2, 3, 11, 12), collectively represented more than 20% of all betting selections, also appearing to take up a significant portion of bettors’ craps strategy choices.
Taking a closer look at the distribution of Place bets, it closely mirrored optimal strategy. Place 6 and Place 8 bets, which many consider to be among the strongest value bets in craps, combined to make up 43.5% of all Place bets. By contrast, Place 4 and Place 10, which are considered weaker bets, combined to account for 22.9%. This shows that players do have some level of strategic awareness when placing their craps bets.
Interestingly, the Field bet was the most frequently placed bet, despite it having significantly worse odds for players. Field bets also were shown to outperform every individual Place bet and even the Pass Line.
Pass Line was then the seventh most-used bet, suggesting that many players weren’t opting to go with the more traditional beginner strategy of primarily betting on the Pass Line. Players chose the Pass Line almost four times as often as Don’t Pass, while the Come bet was chosen almost five times as often as Don’t Come. These patterns reinforce that online players overwhelmingly prefer to bet with the shooter (dice roller) rather than against them.
What Craps Bets Give You the Best Odds?

In craps, there are different types of bets that players can place. Odds bets are additional wagers placed behind a Pass Line or Don’t Pass bet and are the only type that give no advantage to the house (casino). Pass Line and Don’t Pass bets are then considered among the most favorable a player can make. Place 6 and Place 8 are also typically considered strong, with our data showing that players are aware this is the case – accounting for more than four in ten Place bets.
From what we can see, Odds bets are very rare and represent just 2% of all betting selections. This is somewhat surprising given that they’re the only wager in craps that gives no advantage to the casino. Players could take advantage of placing Odds bets and potentially increase their chances of seeing returns.
Many players placed Pass Line bets but didn’t add Odds bets as well, meaning that they didn’t take full advantage of one of the most player-friendly betting options. Only a small number of players placed both Pass Line and Odds bets, representing a small share of overall players that make the most of this betting opportunity.
Another interesting trend that cropped up was that despite higher-risk bets accounting for just 16% of all wagers, they were shown to generate around 38% of total casino profit. This indicates that a small share of higher-house edge bets generated a disproportionately large share of casino revenue.
The biggest revelation, however, was that compared to roulette, craps generated a higher casino hold, meaning that casinos kept a larger share of money wagered (3.60% compared to 3.18%) – but not because it was more popular.
Though Americans’ roulette betting habits appear to be driven by superstition, this wasn’t the case for craps. Despite craps offering some good-value bets, North American players tended to choose less favorable bets, meaning they saw increased losses when wagering their money.
What We Can Learn About Craps Betting in North America
So, looking at the revelations of our analysis into online casino craps betting in North America, we can piece together how people understand craps and if they’re using optimal betting strategies.
Overall, the data suggests that players understand the fundamentals of craps strategy, which we can see through players’ strong preference for Place 6 and Place 8 bets over Place 4 and Place 10. However, with the clear popularity of Field bets, proposition bets, and a lower usage of Odds bets, it indicates that players seem to prioritize thrill and excitement over more optimal strategies that carry more favorable odds.
