Year 4 of the Deion Sanders era at Colorado begins Thursday night when the Buffaloes take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets at Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta. This year also marks the fourth full season for Brent Key as Georgia Tech’s head coach after he took over midway through the 2022 season.
Key led Georgia Tech to an impressive 9-4 season last year, and although the Yellow Jackets lost four of their final five games, including a 25-21 loss to BYU in the Pop-Tarts Bowl after starting the year 8-0, there’s still plenty to be optimistic about heading into the new season. Transfer running back Justice Haynes is a big reason for that optimism after leading the Big Ten with 7.1 yards per carry at Michigan while also rushing for a career-high 857 yards and 10 touchdowns in just seven games. He adds another elite weapon to an already physical Georgia Tech ground attack.
Things haven’t gone exactly to plan for Sanders at Colorado, as the Buffaloes have posted a 16-21 record across his first three seasons as head coach. Last year was particularly disappointing, with Colorado finishing 3-9 overall and 1-8 in Big 12 play after a nine-win campaign in 2024. However, Colorado will look a lot different in 2026 with new offensive and defensive coordinators, as well as massive roster turnover through the transfer portal. The Buffaloes hope those changes can create a more explosive offense and a much-improved defensive front to address their glaring issues against opposing rushing attacks from a year ago.
