The red-hot Houston Astros (58-55) host the Toronto Blue Jays (52-60) on Monday night at Daikin Park to open a three-game series. The two teams previously met toward the end of June when the Astros picked up a 2-1 series victory in Toronto.
After a shaky first half of the 2026 MLB season, the Astros have really turned the corner since returning from the All-Star break. Houston was swept by Baltimore to open the second half but has since won 11 of its last 12 games, including a recent sweep of Texas that saw it leapfrog the Rangers for the top spot in the AL West.
The Blue Jays have failed to carry over the momentum from last year’s American League pennant-winning season and enter Monday eight games below .500 and in last place in the AL East. Although Toronto has won three of its last four games, it’s 7-9 since the break and lost 5-1 to St. Louis on Sunday in a game in which the offense managed just five hits while striking out 10 times.
The Blue Jays will turn to veteran right-hander and 2020 AL Cy Young Award winner Shane Bieber for Monday night’s series opener. Bieber has made just seven starts this season after beginning the year on the injured list because of right elbow inflammation and lingering right forearm fatigue related to his previous Tommy John recovery, delaying his season debut until June 23. Cristian Javier is set to start for the Astros and has also missed a large portion of the season because of injury, limiting him to just eight appearances, including four starts.
