A blocked field goal at Kansas last Saturday proved to be the final straw for Baylor head coach Dave Aranda.

The Bears were on the verge of escaping Lawrence with a victory before Rhett Armstrong’s potential game-winning 45-yard field goal was blocked in the final minute, sealing a 25-24 defeat. Baylor fired Aranda the following day, ending his seven-year tenure in Waco and promoting defensive coordinator Joe Klanderman to interim head coach.

Meanwhile, UCF is coming off arguably the biggest victory in program history, stunning previously unbeaten No. 2 BYU Cougars 39-31 in double overtime last Saturday. Quarterback Keyone Jenkins threw three touchdown passes and added another score on the ground as the Knights secured their first-ever win against an AP top-five opponent.

Both programs enter Friday night’s Big 12 matchup at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET on ESPN from the Acrisure Bounce House in Orlando, where UCF will host its annual Space Game.

Baylor vs. UCF Prediction

Baylor Moneyline (-130): I’m backing the Bears to win outright in their first game under interim head coach Joe Klanderman.

Coaching changes often provide an immediate spark – Baylor has dropped two straight, and I’m expecting a motivated group to take the field following Aranda’s dismissal.

Klanderman takes over a team that has been far better defensively than its recent results might suggest. The Bears are allowing just 16.1 points per game, ranking among the top 20 nationally in scoring defense. They also rank third in the country in sacks and fifth in tackles for loss per game.

That defensive pressure should come into play against a UCF offense coming off its biggest performance of the season. Quarterback Keyone Jenkins was outstanding against BYU, but the Knights now face a quick turnaround after an emotional double-overtime victory over the nation’s No. 2 team.

There’s also been significant line movement in this one. Baylor opened as a 2.5-point underdog at Hard Rock Bet but has since moved to a 2.5-point favorite – a five-point swing despite the Bears’ consecutive losses and UCF’s signature victory.

UCF deserves all the credit in the world for knocking off BYU, but this feels like an extremely difficult spot for the Knights against a Baylor team looking for a fresh start. I expect the Bears to respond to the coaching change, lean on their defense and find a way to leave Orlando with a victory.
