The Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers open a three-game series Friday afternoon at American Family Field with one of the best pitching matchups of the season on tap.

Atlanta enters the series at 75-53 with a five-game lead atop the NL East, but is coming off an uneven stretch on the road. The Braves were swept in three games by the Minnesota Twins earlier this week before bouncing back with a 2-0 win over the Chicago White Sox on Thursday in a makeup game from June.

Milwaukee, meanwhile, owns baseball‘s best record at 79-49 and has won four of its last five games. That stretch included a 22-0 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday, matching the modern-era MLB record for the largest margin of victory in a shutout.

The Braves swept the first series between these clubs from June 19-21 in Atlanta, winning 3-2, 4-3 and 9-4. Jacob Misiorowski started the series opener, going six innings with seven strikeouts while allowing two earned runs in a 3-2 loss. Chris Sale took the mound the following night, allowing five hits and two unearned runs with seven strikeouts across 5.2 innings before receiving a no decision in Atlanta’s walk-off win.

This time, Sale and Misiorowski will take the mound on the same day, setting up one of the best pitching matchups of the season. Sale enters Friday at 12-8 with a 2.16 ERA, while Misiorowski is 12-5 with an MLB-best 1.75 ERA.

With two division leaders, baseball’s best record and a pair of Cy Young-caliber arms sharing the stage, Friday afternoon’s opener has everything you could ask for from a late-August MLB matchup.

Best Bet for Braves vs. Brewers

Before you lock in any bets, check out Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook‘s Stats Hub for stats, trends, and other valuable data insights to help you shape your betting card. For Friday’s marquee pitching matchup, the value is on Sale and Atlanta as an underdog:

Atlanta Braves Moneyline (+130): Anytime you can get a pitcher of Chris Sale’s caliber as a sizable underdog, there’s going to be some appeal – even when the other side is sending out one of baseball’s best young arms in Jacob Misiorowski.

Sale has already handled this Milwaukee lineup once this season. The veteran left-hander went 5.2 innings against the Brewers on June 20, allowing five hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven. He didn’t factor into the decision, but Atlanta eventually came away with a 4-3 walk-off victory.

There’s also some encouraging history for Sale at American Family Field. He’s 2-0 with a 2.18 ERA and 28 strikeouts across three career starts in Milwaukee. One of those outings came more than a decade ago with the White Sox, but the other two have come with Atlanta over the past two seasons, including Braves wins of 6-2 in 2024 and 7-1 in 2025.

Misiorowski is one of the toughest young arms in baseball, but Sale has been every bit as good this season and has a strong track record in Milwaukee. Anytime you can get a pitcher of his caliber at +130, I’m willing to take my chances – even with Misiorowski on the other side.

  • Milwaukee -1.5 is receiving 56.8% of all run line tickets and an even larger 74.9% of the handle.
  • The Under has drawn just 31.1% of all tickets, but those wagers account for 70% of the handle.
