The curtain officially comes up on the 2026/27 English Premier League season this afternoon, with defending champions Arsenal hosting newly promoted Coventry City at the Emirates Stadium.
For the first time in 22 years, Arsenal enter a new Premier League campaign as champions – and as sizable betting favorites to do something they’ve never done in the Premier League era: retain the title. That quest starts today.
After a summer spent betting on the World Cup, Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook is ready to welcome back the Premier League with a full slate of both new and familiar soccer betting markets. From 3-way moneylines and anytime goalscorer props to assists, shots, saves, corners, team and player futures, and more, there are plenty of ways to bet on the Premier League throughout the season.
Below, I’m digging into today’s opening EPL fixture with my favorite Arsenal vs. Coventry City predictions and best bets, plus one Premier League future I’ve got my eye on.
Arsenal vs. Coventry City Current Odds
- Arsenal to win: -525 (84% implied probability)
- Tie: +600 (14% implied probabiltiy)
- Coventry City to win: +1300 (7% implied probability)
Arsenal enter the opening match of the season as a prohibitive favorite against Coventry City, priced at -525 to win on the 3-way moneyline market. Remember, if you’re tuning in after the World Cup, there is no extra time here in league play, meaning this one will end after the 90-minutes + stoppage time.
The Gunners are the reigning champions and made short work of Manchester City last weekend with a 3-0 win to collect the Community Shield. However, Frank Lampard’s Coventry City are coming off of a title of their own, having blitzed through the Championship last season – winning one of the most competitive leagues in world football by eleven points. Coventry City are +1300 to grab a shocking win, and +600 to secure a point in their first Premier League action in 25 years.
Arsenal vs Coventry Predictions
As is my normal process, I’m starting my research for Arsenal-Coventry City in the Hard Rock Bet Stats Hub, which is a great source for data, streaks, trends, and more across a variety of sports.
Arsenal-Coventry Best Player Prop: Martin Ødegaard Anytime Assist (+180)
While it ended with an unforgettable trophy lift at Selhurst Park, the 25/26 season was a mixed bag for Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard. He managed just 24 league appearances due to recurring injuries and contributed one lone goal and six assists, far below the figures that fans of the team have come to expect.
However, he went away with Norway this summer and captained his country on a remarkable run to the quarterfinals at the World Cup, and has returned to Arsenal in fine form. Ødegaard has been sharp throughout the pre-season, and was excellent last weekend in the Community Shield, scoring a goal that oozed confidence – the sort of finish a player doesn’t even attempt unless they’re feeling themselves a little bit.
Ødegaard is the creative engine of this attack and we’re getting him against a newly promoted side to contribute an assist at +180 – I’m in.
Coventry City vs Arsenal Best Bet: Both Teams to Score – NO (-170)
Arsenal have been the best defensive side in Europe for years now. They have an identity and culture where defending and clean sheets are valued above all else… and while William Saliba, one of the best center backs in the world, is out injured – there’s still plenty of talent and experience across the Arsenal back line.
Stats Hub points out that:
- Arsenal have won sixteen straight at home against newly promoted teams
- Arsenal have pitched a shutout in five straight night games in the league
- Both Teams to Score has failed to hit in seven of their last eight openers
So with what we know about Arsenal and their opponent, I’m comfortable paying the -170 price for this BTTS bet.
Best EPL Future Bet: Arsenal Over 77.5 Points (-125)
If you’re interested in a futures bet ahead of the new season, Arsenal’s over/under points total of 77.5 really stands out as an obvious over.
Arsenal won the league last season on 85 points, topping Pep Guardiola’s final Manchester City team by seven points when all was said and done… but it was far from a perfect season for the Gunners. They were plagued by key, long-term injuries throughout the entire campaign and never seemed to find the rhythm that was on display in years past. But, they still won. Convincingly.
This should, be all accounts, be a better version of last seasons team – unburdened by the pressures of ending a long title drought. They’ve added one of the best midfielders in the world in Bruno Guimarães. They’ve brought in Christos Tsiolis who has been on fire in pre-season to contribute from the left, and perhaps more importantly, key players like Saka, Havertz, and the aforementioned Martin Ødegaard seem to be getting healthy and primed for the new campaign.
Factor in that the major challengers of Manchester City, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Spurs are all starting this season with a different coach to the one they started with last year, and the path for Arsenal to hit this number becomes more clear.
Arsenal have eclipsed the 77.5 point total in two of the last three seasons and there’s every reason to believe they’ll get there again. I like the over here.
