On May 9, 2025, at 11:40 p.m. ET, one bettor stitched together a parlay that perfectly captured everything wild and wonderful about modern sports betting.

The wager was a four-leg parlay totaling +42100 odds, built around a sharp live read in the NBA playoffs and finished off with a daring NFL future that took nine months to pay.

The $123,000 Parlay

The first three legs came from a live same game parlay during Game 3 of the Western Conference Semifinals between the Nuggets and Thunder:

  • Shai Gilgeous-Alexander under 21.5 points
  • Michael Porter Jr. over 20.5 points
  • Nuggets moneyline (the longest of the three legs at +275)

As the game unfolded, the SGP cashed – already a sweat in itself, given the live under on the MVP of the league and a plus-money comeback win. But instead of celebrating a tidy win, the bettor still had a long way to go.

Tacked onto the parlay was a bold NFL future:

  • Matthew Stafford to win NFL MVP at +4000 (40/1).

That single leg turned a same-night score into a long-term hold.

Waiting 272 Days to Collect

After the NBA ticket settled, the bet sat dormant – locked, untouchable, and riding the entire NFL season. From May 9 to February 5, a span of 272 days, the parlay stayed alive as Stafford’s MVP case slowly built.

When awards season finally arrived the MVP conversation had narrowed to just two: Patriots QB Drake Maye and the 17-year veteran in LA, Matthew Stafford. When it was officially announced that Stafford had won his first MVP award, few were happier than our Miami-based bettor, who turned a $250 stake into a $123,000 payout.

Part SGP, part long-range conviction, and a whole lot of patience. Most parlays are over quickly. This one took nine months – and paid like it.
