The UFC returns to Edmonton, Alberta, for the first time in nearly two years on Saturday, October 17, bringing a 13-fight card to Rogers Place headlined by a welterweight showdown between Joaquin Buckley and Mike Malott.
UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott begins at 5 p.m. ET with the preliminary card, followed by six main-card bouts starting at 8 p.m. ET. The entire event will stream live on Paramount+.
Buckley (21-8) enters Saturday ranked No. 8 in the welterweight division, three spots ahead of Malott (14-2-1). After moving down from middleweight in 2023, Buckley put together six consecutive victories to establish himself as a legitimate welterweight contender. His run included stoppages of Vicente Luque, Stephen Thompson and former interim champion Colby Covington.
That momentum ended in June 2025, when Buckley suffered a unanimous decision loss to former champion Kamaru Usman. He returned to the Octagon in February but fell to Sean Brady, leaving the St. Louis native searching for his first victory since December 2024.
Malott has worked his way into the rankings following a disappointing third-round TKO loss to Neil Magny in January 2024. The Ontario native has since won four consecutive fights, defeating Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Kevin Holland and former title challenger Gilbert Burns.
His latest victory came in April, when he stopped Burns in the third round to earn the biggest win of his UFC career. Saturday presents Malott with another opportunity to add a recognizable name to his resume and continue his ascent in the division.
The co-main event features a matchup between two ranked women’s flyweights, with No. 3 Erin Blanchfield taking on No. 6 Jasmine Jasudavicius.
The main card also includes several Canadian fighters, with Kyle Nelson facing Cristian Perez at lightweight and Marc-Andre Barriault taking on Kyle Daukaus in a middleweight bout.
Louis Jourdain makes his UFC debut against Timmy Cuamba in a bantamweight matchup, while lightweights Mandel Nallo and Nate Landwehr complete the six-fight main card.

Best Bet for UFC Fight Night: Buckley vs. Malott
Mike Malott Moneyline (-130): Hard Rock Bet’s Stats Hub notes that Malott has won 10 of his last 11 professional MMA fights, a stretch that includes a 7-1 run in official UFC bouts.
Malott will also have the benefit of competing in front of a Canadian crowd at Rogers Place, where he previously earned a unanimous decision victory over Trevin Giles in November 2024.
Buckley remains a dangerous opponent with legitimate knockout power, but his recent losses have exposed some weaknesses in his grappling game. Both Kamaru Usman and Sean Brady were able to use their wrestling to disrupt Buckley’s offense and limit his effectiveness.
Malott isn’t as accomplished a wrestler as either opponent, but he has demonstrated an ability to finish fights through both striking and submissions. That versatility could prove valuable against Buckley, particularly if the Canadian can avoid extended exchanges on his feet and force his opponent to defend takedowns.
Malott also has experience competing in five-round fights, having stopped Gilbert Burns in the third round of their April main event.
With Malott carrying strong recent form, multiple avenues to victory and the support of the Edmonton crowd, we’re backing the Canadian to defeat Buckley and continue climbing the welterweight rankings.
