Shelton hasn’t necessarily had a smooth path to the quarterfinals, needing four sets to win each of his first three matches, all against unseeded opponents, before defeating Stefanos Tsitsipas in straight sets in the Round of 16. Shelton has yet to face a seeded opponent, with the highest-ranked player he’s faced being world No. 47 Hubert Hurkacz, whom he defeated in the second round.
Alcaraz is the defending US Open champion as the Spaniard looks to become the first man to win back-to-back singles titles at the tournament since Roger Federer won five straight from 2004-08.
