Day baseball between the Miami Marlins (36-38) and Philadelphia Phillies (40-33) highlights Wednesday’s MLB slate as the two NL East rivals wrap up their three-game series at Citizens Bank Park.

It has been all Phillies so far. Philadelphia has a chance to complete the sweep after a 7-0 shutout victory Monday night and an 8-2 win Tuesday. Jesús Luzardo got the better of his former team in the second game, tossing seven strong innings with nine strikeouts. The Phillies’ offense gave him plenty of support, scoring seven runs in the first two innings before adding another in the fourth on Kyle Schwarber’s MLB-leading 25th home run of the season.

The Marlins will look to salvage the series with ace Sandy Alcántara on the mound against rookie right-hander Andrew Painter. Alcántara hasn’t had his best season, but the veteran right-hander may be turning a corner after three consecutive starts of seven or more innings while allowing three earned runs or fewer.

Here’s a featured pick for the series finale:

Marlins vs. Phillies Best Bet: Sandy Alcántara Over 4.5 Strikeouts

Sandy Alcántara may not be the same strikeout pitcher he was during his peak years, including his 2022 NL Cy Young campaign, but he can still miss bats. He’ll face a Phillies lineup that enters Wednesday with the 10th-most strikeouts in MLB.

Philadelphia has done a good job limiting strikeouts through the first two games of the series, striking out just four times Monday and seven times Tuesday. However, Alcántara has recorded at least five strikeouts in each of his last three starts, including seven strikeouts in each of his last two outings.

There is some risk with this prop given Alcántara’s inconsistent season, but his recent form is encouraging. He has gone over 4.5 strikeouts in 53% of his starts this year.
