Hard Rock Bet caught up with Pro Football Hall of Famer, former Miami Hurricanes star and Indianapolis Colts legend Edgerrin James at an exclusive VIP event at the Hard Rock Casino Hollywood earlier this month. James answered a few rapid fire questions for us covering both college football and the NFL.
What do you think about NFL players returning to college football?
I don’t like it. I’m totally against it because once you go pro, you go pro, and then you’re taking an opportunity away from another kid. You know, once you’ve had your time, you’ve had your time, and there’s no need. You can’t play both sides. You need to make a decision and actually just be good enough. Be good enough and you don’t have to worry about that. As a parent, I don’t want a 25-, 26-year-old playing against my 18-, 19-year-old son. Like, hey, you have the time. You have your time limit. Make the most of your time and get out of the way.
What do you think of the College Football Playoff expanding to include 24 teams?
I think 24 teams waters it down. I’m more of a fan of 16 teams because nobody’s going to be really tripping on number 16, number 17, number 18. When it comes to, like last year when we had the 12, and it’s a difference between 11 and 12 and who gets in and who doesn’t get in. But after 16 teams, I think it’s a bit much.
Who is the biggest threat to the Miami Hurricanes this season?
Miami’s biggest threat is Miami. We have to stay the course, stay together, keep working, and everybody continues to push each other because we have all the stuff. We have all the tools. We have everything that it takes to be a great football team. And I know we’ve got to go to Notre Dame. That’s going to be one of the games that’s pointed out, but I just think that we have to stay the course and continue building on each other because that’s when it’s going to matter, because when we get to the playoffs, anybody can win. And as long as we’ve been playing together with all the talent and the system that we have, we should come out on top.
What NFL team is going to be a Dark Horse this year?
I’m going to say the Colts. The Colts are making the playoffs this year.
What’s harder: scoring 10 points in the NBA or rushing for 20 yards in the NFL?
Depends on what defense you’re playing against, first of all. I would say it’s harder to get 20 rushing yards because it’s all based on other people. And as far as the NBA, I think I can get 10 points.
