Man U vs. Ipswich

Manchester United returns to Old Trafford on Sunday looking to put a difficult opening weekend behind it, as Ipswich Town visits for the club’s first home match of the new Premier League season. Kickoff is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. ET on USA Network.

United entered the new campaign with momentum from a third-place finish under Michael Carrick, who took over midway through last season and guided the club to 12 wins across its final 17 league matches. That progress did not carry into last Saturday’s opener, however, as newly promoted Hull City handed United a 2-0 defeat at the MKM Stadium.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute before club-record signing Nobel Mendy doubled Hull’s advantage later in the first half. Both goals came from set-pieces, leaving United with a deficit it could not overcome despite attempting 21 shots, including 15 from inside the penalty area.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha each tested goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis, while Marcus Rashford created four chances after entering at halftime. United controlled much of the possession but could not turn that pressure into its first goal or point of the season.

Ipswich arrives at Old Trafford after enjoying a much different start to the season. The Tractor Boys earned promotion by finishing second in the Championship with 84 points, securing an immediate move back to the top flight following their relegation at the end of the 2024-25 season.

Former Wolves manager Gary O’Neil took over during the summer and began his tenure with a 2-1 victory over Sunderland. New signing Emersonn scored in his Premier League debut before former Sunderland winger Jack Clarke delivered the game winner in the 90th minute.

Ipswich’s roster underwent significant changes following promotion. Emersonn, Julio Enciso, Issa Diop, Sasa Lukic, Abdul Fatawu and Daizen Maeda were among the summer additions, while Argentine midfielder Exequiel Palacios completed a move from Bayer Leverkusen earlier this week.

Manchester United also strengthened its midfield during the summer, adding Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos before completing a move for Carlos Baleba this week. Baleba will have to wait to make his debut while recovering from an ankle injury, and Amad is also expected to remain unavailable. Mason Mount has returned to training and could rejoin the squad Sunday. Ipswich is expected to remain without midfielders Florentino Luís and Azor Matusiwa.

History favors the home side. Manchester United is unbeaten in its last seven Premier League meetings with Ipswich and has won the last four league matchups at Old Trafford by a combined score of 18-2. The clubs last met during the 2024-25 season, playing to a 1-1 draw at Portman Road before United earned a 3-2 home victory despite playing the second half with 10 men.

Best Bet for Manchester United vs. Ipswich Town

Hard Rock Bet’s Stats Hub provides trends and data insights for every Premier League matchup, all season long – be sure to check it out before placing any bets on the EPL this season. Manchester United’s recent response to league defeats helps set up our featured play for Sunday:

Manchester United/Manchester United Halftime/Fulltime (+100): Manchester United has won each of its last six Premier League matches following a league loss. With United priced at -260 on the three-way moneyline, we’ll instead back the home side to lead at both halftime and fulltime at even money.

United should have no shortage of urgency after beginning the season with a disappointing 2-0 loss to Hull City. Carrick’s side attempted 21 shots but failed to convert, while conceding twice during the opening 38 minutes left it chasing the match before halftime.

Sunday gives United an immediate opportunity to respond against another promoted opponent, this time in its first match of the season at Old Trafford. A stronger start will be a priority after the early deficit at Hull allowed the hosts to protect their advantage for most of the afternoon.

Ipswich has opened O’Neil’s tenure with consecutive victories in both league play and the Carabao Cup, but Old Trafford presents a different challenge. United has dominated this matchup at home and will also enter Sunday with a full week of preparation after Ipswich played in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday.

United has also won its last four home league meetings with Ipswich by a combined score of 18-2. With the hosts looking to take control from the opening whistle, we’ll take Manchester United/Manchester United Halftime/Fulltime (+100) as our best bet for Sunday.
