Clay Travis’ Week 4 College Football Predictions & Picks: Indiana vs. Northwestern

We’ve got a big weekend of college football, and my picks start on Friday with Northwestern-Indiana and Clemson-Cal before we get into a Saturday packed with SEC and Big Ten matchups.

Clay’s Thursday Night College Football Picks

• Northwestern +21.5
• Clemson vs. Cal Over 50.5 points

Quickly I think Northwestern will keep it close against Indiana, and I like the over in Clemson vs. Cal. But let’s get into some of the biggest games on the board, starting with the total I love this week.

Clay’s Week 4 Blood Bank Pick 🩸- UCLA vs. Maryland Over 56.5

• Clay’s Picks: UCLA -1.5, Over 56.5

My bloodbank pick is the over in the UCLA–Maryland game. I love this.

UCLA is 3-0 and coming off the 52 points it put up against Purdue. This UCLA offense is playing well, and I’m taking the over.

Speaking of Purdue, I’m also taking the over in the Notre Dame-Purdue game.

Texas vs. Tennessee: Backing the Vols

• Clay’s Picks: Tennesse +4.5, Under 55.5

We at Sport & State are going to be on the road at the Texas-Tennessee game, which I believe is the best overall game of the weekend.

I’m on Tennessee, and I’m on the under in this big matchup against Texas. I think Tennessee will have a very good chance to win this one before all is said and done.

Oklahoma vs. Georgia – Bulldogs Take Control

• Clay’s Picks: Georgia -13.5, Under 44.5

I think Georgia is going to blow out Oklahoma, I’ll give the points. And by blowout, I mean it might be 24-6, because I’m also on the under.

This Oklahoma offense right now is historically awful. I don’t think you’re going to get healthy on the road in Athens against Georgia. I think Georgia is just going to sort of, anaconda-style, squeeze the life out of Oklahoma. That’s why I also like the under.

Florida vs. Ole Miss – Going Against The Crowd

• Clay’s Picks: Florida -2.5, Over 58.5

There’s a lot of attention on this Florida-Ole Miss game. Florida is the favorite, and all the money is on Ole Miss.

I understand it’s year one of Jon Sumrall. I understand it’s still a very happy honeymoon, and Ole Miss is coming off a solid win. They’ve got maybe the best player in college football at the quarterback position in Trinidad Chambliss.

But I’m on Florida. I’m going to be one of the rare few. I also like the over in this game.

Iowa vs. Michigan – Taking the Points

• Clay’s Pick: Iowa +4.5

There are two big games in the Big Ten, and in this one, I’m taking Iowa plus the points at Michigan.

I don’t believe in the Michigan offense.

South Carolina vs. Alabama – The Number Feels Big

• Clay’s Picks: South Carolina +12.5, Over 54.5

This one is intriguing to me because it feels a lot like the Texas A&M game against Kentucky last week.

South Carolina fans had a great first half against Mississippi State. The Gamecocks looked like they were going to win, and then they fell apart. Now South Carolina fans have all jumped off the bandwagon. They all say, “We stink.”

LaNorris Sellers has a high ceiling. Alabama, meanwhile, came out and took care of Florida State, particularly in the second half, and Tide fans are optimistic.

This number feels big. I’m taking Carolina, and I’m also taking the over.

Oregon vs. USC – Don’t Overthink It

• Clay’s Pick: Over 62.5

This is the other big Big Ten game, and I’m not overthinking it. Oregon has not been able to stop anybody. I’m going to take the over.

Mississippi State vs. Missouri: Impressed With the Bulldogs

• Clay’s Pick: Mississippi State -6.5, Over 58.5

I’m on Mississippi State and the over in this game.

Looking at what Mississippi State has done so far, the back-to-back road wins at Minnesota and South Carolina are impressive.

Texas A&M vs. LSU – Two Dogs Fight for One Bone

• Clay’s Pick: Over 51.5

This is a sneaky, sneaky, diabolical game here.

When ESPN and ABC put this game in prime time, they clearly thought Texas A&M would be undefeated and there was a good chance LSU would be undefeated, too. Instead, each team lost its SEC opener.

Texas A&M was in the playoff last year. LSU expects to be in the playoff this year. Now one of them is going to start 0-2 in the SEC with seven conference games still left.

In my view, their playoff hopes are effectively going to be gone. This is like two dogs fighting for one bone. I like the over, but Sam Leavitt has not been good, and the Texas A&M defense has not been good. This is a tough game to get well with.

Either Mike Elko or Lane Kiffin is going to be dealing with body blows from the fan base over how this season has started.

I think LSU will find a way to get the win at home at night. The team that comes out 1-1 can still tell itself it’s fine and find a way to go 6-1 the rest of the way. LSU’s schedule, particularly, gets better.

This is a big game. If you’re not paying attention to it, I’m telling you: it’s going to be awesome.
