The National League pennant race is on as the 2026 NLCS begins with Game 1 Sunday night at American Family Field in a best-of-seven series between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers. It’s a rematch of the 2025 NLCS, when the top-seeded Brewers were swept in four games by the No. 3-seeded Dodgers before Los Angeles went on to win its second consecutive World Series, setting up a historic three-peat opportunity in 2026.

The difference between this year and last is that the Dodgers entered the 2026 MLB playoffs as the No. 2 seed, earning a first-round bye along with Milwaukee. Los Angeles began this postseason with a 5-3 win over Atlanta behind Tarik Skubal’s six strong innings of work on the mound and three home runs by the offense.

Atlanta then stole a 3-2 victory in Game 2 at Dodger Stadium, but Los Angeles received stellar starting pitching once again in Games 3 and 4, with more firepower from the offense providing enough runs to take care of business on the road and advance to the NLCS for the third consecutive year.

The Brewers have been one of MLB’s most dominant teams for quite a while now, having made the playoffs in eight of the last nine years, with this being their third NLCS appearance since 2018. Milwaukee has finished with the best record in the majors and reached the NLCS in each of the last two years, but there’s one thing missing: a World Series championship. In fact, the Brewers have never won a World Series in franchise history.

Milwaukee advanced to this year’s NLCS after a four-game NLDS victory over San Diego. It was a tight, low-scoring series, with every game decided by one run other than the Brewers’ series-clinching 3-1 win in Game 4.

Game 1 of the NLCS is set to feature a dream starting pitching matchup between two-time Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal and likely 2026 NL Cy Young Award winner Jacob Misiorowski. The Brewers are turning to their 24-year-old ace Misiorowski, who put together a ridiculous 2026 regular season in which he posted a 1.80 ERA, 0.80 WHIP, and 252 strikeouts.

The Dodgers are handing the ball to left-hander Skubal, whom they acquired in a massive blockbuster midseason trade from Detroit. He once again had a dominant regular season, owning a 12-7 record with a 2.72 ERA and 0.96 WHIP.

Both pitchers have already started a game this postseason, and we already alluded to Skubal’s masterpiece in Game 1 of the NLDS against Atlanta. Misiorowski didn’t quite have as much success in his NLDS start against San Diego, but it was solid nonetheless, as he allowed four hits and two earned runs while striking out six batters over four innings.

Brewers vs. Dodgers Best Bet: Dodgers Moneyline (-105)

The Brewers finished ahead of the Dodgers in the regular season standings and owned a 4-3 advantage in the season series in 2026, but that doesn’t change the fact that Los Angeles swept Milwaukee in the NLCS a year ago and features one of the most talented and intimidating rosters ever assembled.

Game 1 could go either way, especially if both starting pitchers pitch deep into the game, but it’s hard to go against Skubal, who owns a 1.97 career ERA in the playoffs, and this formidable Dodgers lineup.

The Stats Hub also offers several trends supporting the Dodgers in this matchup. Los Angeles has won each of its last 10 playoff games against NL Central opponents and has led after three innings in four of its last five games against teams from the division. Additionally, the Brewers have scored two or fewer runs in each of their last seven playoff games against the Dodgers.
