The red-hot Philadelphia Phillies (73-58) begin a nine-game road trip out West with their first stop against the Seattle Mariners (62-69) on Monday night for the start of a three-game interleague series at T-Mobile Park. The Phillies are on an incredible run, currently riding a nine-game winning streak with the chance to make it double digits Monday night.

It looked as though the streak was about to come to an end in Sunday’s series finale against St. Louis when Philadelphia was down 4-0 and had just four hits entering the bottom of the ninth inning, but then an improbable rally occurred with two outs and a runner in scoring position. The Phillies managed to load the bases before Edmundo Sosa hit a bases-clearing three-RBI double with two strikes, Bryan De La Cruz hit a game-tying RBI single with two strikes, and then Kyle Schwarber launched a two-run, 459-foot walk-off home run with two strikes to complete the comeback and win the game 6-4.

Although the Mariners won their series against the Chicago Cubs over the weekend, they won’t be carrying the same momentum into Monday’s series opener as the Phillies. Seattle was on the wrong end of a 19-2 blowout in Sunday’s finale against the Cubs in a game in which the Mariners’ offense went 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position.

The Mariners will send right-hander Logan Gilbert to the mound to try to slow down Philadelphia on Monday night. Gilbert is 10-7 with a 3.35 ERA this season and will be opposed by veteran right-hander Zack Wheeler of the Phillies. Wheeler is 10-4 with a 2.92 ERA on the year but has struggled recently, posting a 6.64 ERA over his last five starts, and he hasn’t picked up a win since July 12.

Mariners vs. Phillies Best Bet: Bryce Harper Over 0.5 Runs (+135)

Bryce Harper is an on-base machine, which has helped spark the Phillies’ offense and their recent success. The two-time MVP’s 83 runs scored this season are tied for the ninth-most in MLB entering Monday’s action, and his 93 walks are the most by any player.

Harper has enjoyed an incredible month of August, batting .304 with a .551 slugging percentage and a 1.051 OPS, while his .500 on-base percentage and 27 walks are both the highest in the majors for the month. He has scored at least one run in each of his last 10 games, and his 18 runs scored this month are tied for the fourth-most in MLB.

Logan Gilbert has been pitching really well for the Mariners, but Harper has had success against the former All-Star in their career head-to-head meetings. Harper is 3-for-6 with a walk against Gilbert and also owns a .411 batting average with a 1.342 OPS in 15 career games against Seattle.

If the Phillies are going to get to Gilbert on Monday night, Harper will likely be involved one way or another with the way he’s been playing this month.
