The Tampa Bay Rays (77-53) head to Detroit, Michigan, to take on the Tigers (61-69) for the start of a three-game series Monday night at Comerica Park. Both teams are looking to turn things around and get back to playing winning baseball.

The Rays have the best record in the American League but have lost seven of their last 10 games and each of their previous three series. Tampa Bay is, however, coming off a 3-1 victory in Sunday’s finale in Baltimore, backed by a three-run sixth inning and six innings of one-hit baseball from Nick Martinez on the mound.

The Tigers clawed their way back into the AL playoff picture and were just one game below .500 following their 3-0 shutout win against Cleveland on Aug. 13. Things haven’t gone well since then, as Detroit has now lost eight of its last nine games and was just swept in three games by Kansas City, which has one of the worst records in MLB this season. Even so, the Tigers remain in the playoff race, sitting just 3.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot.

Veteran left-hander Framber Valdez is set to take the mound as he looks to help snap the Tigers’ five-game losing streak Monday night. Valdez is 8-8 with a 4.35 ERA this season in his first year with Detroit and has allowed four earned runs in each of his last two starts. All-Star right-hander Drew Rasmussen is scheduled to start for the Rays as he brings a 13-5 record and 3.01 ERA into the matchup. Rasmussen did, however, have a rough outing in his last start, allowing seven hits and five earned runs against Toronto despite being credited with the win.

Rays vs. Tigers Predictions

The MLB playoff race is heating up with just about a month to go in the regular season, so now is the perfect time to get in on the baseball betting action at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook. Tigers vs. Rays Best Bet: Rays Moneyline (-125)

The Rays may not have had much success when it comes to winning over their last 10 games, but they’re still one of the top teams in baseball and have one of the better starting pitchers in the majors on the mound Monday night. While his last start wasn’t his best, Drew Rasmussen has a 2.31 ERA with 40 strikeouts over his last six starts, and the Rays have won all of those games.

Framber Valdez posted a 7.13 ERA across four July starts, and while he’s 3-1 with a 3.55 ERA through his first four starts in August, the Tigers’ left-hander has allowed 11 hits, nine walks, and nine runs (eight earned) while also hitting a batter over his last two outings. It’s been a rough go of it for Valdez lately, and it doesn’t help that Detroit is on a five-game losing streak entering Monday or that Tampa Bay has won each of its last eight road games following a win.
