The Miami Marlins (62-60) begin a six-game road trip Friday night with their first stop in Cincinnati, Ohio, to take on the Reds (58-62) at Great American Ball Park. These two ball clubs already met once this season back in early April in Florida, where they split a four-game series with two wins apiece.

The Marlins have won back-to-back series entering Friday, and despite getting blown out 13-1 in the series finale against Pittsburgh on Thursday afternoon in a game in which the offense managed just three hits and struck out 10 times, Miami remains two games over .500 and only 2.5 games back of a National League Wild Card spot. The Reds, meanwhile, are just 2-4 over their last six games but are coming off a series win against the Chicago White Sox, including Thursday afternoon’s 9-8 victory, as they look to remain within striking distance of a Wild Card spot.

The Marlins will hand the ball to veteran right-hander Sandy Alcántara for Friday night’s series opener. Alcántara has been an absolute workhorse for Miami in 2026, leading MLB in innings pitched this season. He’s 13-6 with a 3.52 ERA and will be opposed by 23-year-old All-Star right-hander Chase Burns of the Reds, whose 13-2 record is good for the best winning percentage in the majors this year. Burns currently has the fifth-shortest odds (+4000) to win the 2026 NL Cy Young Award at Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook.

Marlins vs. Reds Predictions

You’re not going to find a much better pitching matchup on Friday’s MLB slate, so head over to Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook to get in on the baseball betting action and check out the Stats Hub to help make picks like the one below:

Reds vs. Marlins Best Bet: Sandy Alcántara Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-115)

Sandy Alcántara has been dominant over his last three starts. He’s allowed just 11 hits and hasn’t surrendered a single run across 20 innings during that stretch.

This can either be a good thing or a bad thing, but Alcántara and the Marlins already faced the Reds way back at the beginning of the season on April 7, when the Sandman tossed 8.1 innings of three-hit, two-run baseball. It’s hard to imagine either pitcher allowing many runs Friday night, but with the way Alcántara has been pitching lately and his prior success against Cincinnati this season, we might as well ride the hot hand.
