The first meeting of the season between AL Central rivals, the Chicago White Sox (29-27) and Detroit Tigers (22-35), begins Friday night at Rate Field in Illinois.

The White Sox have been one of the biggest surprises of the 2026 season. After finishing with the second-worst record in MLB last year, Chicago enters Friday just three games out of first place in the division and has been one of the league’s hottest teams over the last month, posting an 18-10 record since April 27.

The Tigers, meanwhile, are trending in the opposite direction. Detroit suffered a major blow earlier this season when reigning back-to-back AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal sustained a left elbow injury and hasn’t pitched since April 29. The Tigers are 4-18 since May 4 and have dropped 10 of their last 12 games, falling to the bottom of the AL Central standings.

Tigers vs. White Sox Current Odds

Despite Chicago entering in better form and playing stronger baseball overall this season, Hard Rock Bet Sportsbook lists the Tigers as slight road favorites for Friday night’s series opener:

  • Moneyline: Tigers -120, White Sox +100
  • Run Line: Tigers -1.5 (+140), White Sox +1.5 (-170)
  • Total (Runs): Over 8.5 (-115), Under 8.5 (-105)

Below are two featured picks from the Stats Hub:

Tigers vs. White Sox Moneyline Pick: White Sox +100

The Tigers haven’t been playing good baseball lately, and even with a potential pitching advantage Friday night, it’s difficult to trust them against this White Sox team.

Detroit has lost four straight games against AL Central opponents and is just 4-14 within the division this season. All four of those wins came against the 22-34 Kansas City Royals.

The White Sox have simply been the better team recently, making their plus-money moneyline at home an intriguing value play.

Tigers vs. White Sox Best Bet: Munetaka Murakami Over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI

Munetaka Murakami has made an immediate impact since arriving in MLB. After spending eight seasons in Japan’s NPB and signing a two-year deal with the White Sox this offseason, the 26-year-old rookie sensation has already emerged as one of baseball’s premier power hitters.

The left-handed slugger has been especially hot lately. Murakami enters Friday on a four-game hitting streak, has homered in three of his last four games, carries a four-game RBI streak, and has scored at least one run in five consecutive contests.

Needless to say, he has gone over 1.5 Hits+Runs+RBI in each of his last four games.
